How Zurich is developing the next generation of diverse insurance talent
Zurich has long been recognised for its commitment to empowering early-career professionals, building pathways for diverse talent to grow, innovate, and make an impact across the insurance industry.
As a proud iCAN sponsor, Zurich continues to champion inclusion through its graduate and internship programmes, offering a mix of structured learning, professional development, and real responsibility from day one.
Zurich's Early in Careers Programmes have opportunities across areas such as business management, actuarial, data and analytics, sustainable energy, and change and technology management, all designed to help graduates apply their studies to meaningful work while building a strong foundation for long-term careers in insurance.
To learn more about what it’s like to start your career at Zurich, we spoke with two of their recent graduates, Zahirah and Piravein, who shared their insights on learning, growth, and the value of inclusion in the workplace.
Meet Zahirah – Business Management Graduate
Zahirah joined Zurich’s Business Management Graduate Programme to gain a broad understanding of how a large, purpose-led organisation operates.
“What drew me to Zurich was the variety, each rotation offers something completely different,” she says. “From project management to operational transformation, you’re exposed to so many areas that shape how the business runs.”
Transitioning from university to the professional world can be daunting, but Zahirah was pleasantly surprised by the level of trust and autonomy graduates are given.
“I didn’t expect to be involved in projects that had real visibility across the business so soon. There’s a lot of support, but also space to take ownership.”
Her proudest achievement so far has been helping to deliver a project that improved internal collaboration between departments. “Seeing something I contributed to actually make a difference, that was really rewarding.”
When asked what advice she’d give to future applicants, she adds:
“Be open to learning from everyone around you. Ask questions, take feedback, and make the most of every rotation, it’s the best way to discover what you enjoy.”
As she nears the end of the programme, Zahirah plans to continue her career at Zurich in a role that combines project management and people development. “I’ve learned how much I value collaboration and problem-solving — and Zurich’s culture gives you the space to keep growing.”
Meet Piravein – Data & Analytics Graduate
For Piravein, Zurich’s Data & Analytics Graduate Programme provided the perfect platform to combine his technical background with a purpose-driven career.
“I was looking for somewhere that would challenge me to apply data science in real business settings, not just analyse numbers, but help people make better decisions,” he explains.
Since joining, Piravein has worked on multiple projects using data to improve customer experience and risk insights. “The rotations mean you’re constantly learning from new teams. It’s helped me understand how data drives everything, from claims to underwriting.”
One of his proudest moments was presenting his project findings at the Graduate Induction Showcase. “It pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it showed me the impact we can have, even as graduates.”
He highlights Zurich’s inclusive culture as a major factor in his development:
“Everyone genuinely wants you to succeed. I’ve had managers who take time to mentor me, and colleagues who make you feel valued from day one.”
Looking ahead, Piravein hopes to continue developing his expertise in analytics and AI applications across the business. “Zurich gives you the room to grow in whichever direction your skills and interests take you, that’s what makes it special.”
