Returning to Work with Confidence: Inside Convex’s Returner Programme

Published on 19/10/2025

Convex Insurance is redefining how experienced professionals can re-enter the workforce after a career break.

Through its Returner Programme, Convex offers a structured pathway for talented individuals to refresh their skills, rebuild confidence, and transition back into meaningful full-time roles. The initiative reflects the company’s belief that every career gap is filled with valuable experience and that the right mindset, attitude and support can unlock untapped potential.

For many, returning to work after time away can feel daunting. Convex recognises this and has built a programme that combines coaching, mentorship, and flexibility to make that transition smoother and more sustainable.

A supportive pathway back to work

The Convex Returner Programme is open to professionals who have taken a career break of two years or more, whether for family, health, education or personal development reasons.

Over a six-month paid returnship, participants are placed in key business roles, supported by one-to-one coaching, a dedicated manager, and a workplace buddy. The programme is designed to help returners refresh technical skills, rebuild professional networks, and regain confidence in their abilities.

Convex partners with Career Returners, a specialist organisation that provides tailored training and coaching throughout the process. Participants benefit from workshops, peer group support, and personalised guidance focused on mindset, career development, and adapting to new workplace technologies and cultures.

At the end of the six months, there is a strong opportunity to progress into a permanent role within the business, which reflects Convex’s commitment to developing long-term talent rather than temporary placements.

Nupur’s Story – Microsoft Power BI Developer at Convex Insurance

After a six-year career break to raise her young family, Nupur decided it was time to return to work. Having previously built her career as a Microsoft Business Intelligence professional, she faced the challenge of re-entering a fast-moving technology sector after several years away.

“I had missed the intellectual stimulation that comes from solving problems and working in a professional environment,” she explains. “But I also knew it wouldn’t be easy. My technical skills had become a little rusty, and I needed to regain confidence.”

Nupur discovered the Convex Returner Programme through Career Returners, and the structured support offered proved invaluable.

“Convex provided the perfect balance, a welcoming culture, clear structure, and people who genuinely wanted me to succeed. The onboarding process, regular training sessions, and workshops helped me update my knowledge, while mentorship from experienced colleagues gave me guidance and reassurance.”

The flexibility of the programme was also key. “Convex’s approach to flexible working helped me balance family responsibilities while adjusting back into full-time work. The team made it easy to ask questions and learn at my own pace.”

Today, Nupur works as a Microsoft Power BI Developer, using data and analytics to support decision-making across the business. She describes her experience as “transformative” because it not only refreshed her technical skills but reignited her professional confidence.

Her advice to others thinking about returning to work is simple:

“Approach the process with confidence and patience. Be proud of your career break, it’s part of your story. Network, ask questions, and trust that your skills will return with practice.”

A culture that values life experience

Convex’s Returner Programme is one part of a broader culture that values diversity of thought and life experience. The company recognises that the perspectives gained through career breaks, from parenting and volunteering to community work, contribute to creativity, resilience, and strong problem-solving.

Convex’s values are built around care, collaboration, and integrity. Employees (known internally as Convexians) benefit from a wide range of support and wellbeing initiatives, including:

✔ Generous family-friendly policies, including enhanced parental leave and menopause support

✔ A Learning & Wellbeing Wallet of up to £1,300 per year for personal development

✔ Three days of paid volunteering leave and a day off for their birthday

✔ Access to a Wellness Room, multi-faith facilities, and flexible working options

✔ 10% pension contributions and private medical cover for families

These benefits reflect Convex’s philosophy that when people are supported to bring their whole selves to work, they perform at their best.
