About Us
About QBE
We’re an international insurer and reinsurer offering a diverse portfolio of commercial, personal and speciality products, as well as risk management solutions. We employ a team of more than 11,700 people, in 27 countries around the world.
We want everyone who joins us to enjoy the benefits of a rewarding and inspiring future within a culture that is inclusive, flexible and supportive. We are extremely proud to have won ‘Employer of the Year’ at the Insurance Insider Honours 2022.
We asked some of our employees what makes QBE such a special place to work and one of the items that came at the top of the list is our culture. We are open, friendly, collaborative and supportive and we work together to achieve common goals and resolve problems. Treating people with respect is part of our QBE DNA and we encourage employees to bring their ‘whole selves’ to work.
Another important element is that our management teams are supportive, approachable and flexible and they like to encourage collaboration and new ideas. They provide challenging work and encourage teams to take ownership and accountability.
Importantly, some of the ways that QBE goes above and beyond to make the company such a special place to work include a comprehensive support structure of information on wellbeing, free membership to the mental health headspace app, charity days to help local communities, a work from home equipment allowance and fund matching all money raised for charity.
Celebrating ethnic diversity
In 2019, we formed a new employee network called Mix to encourage and celebrate ethnic diversity at QBE, as well as raising awareness about issues faced by ethnic minorities in the workplace. We strongly believe that ethnic diversity adds value to our organisation by helping us to attract and retain the very best talent, foster innovation and meet the needs of diverse clients in today’s global environment. The network has successfully piloted a reverse mentoring scheme to educate colleagues around challenges people face and introduced a School Partnership programme to encourage students from ethnically diverse backgrounds to experience the working world of insurance.

An inclusive culture
We know that diversity of thought, background and experience enables better decision making, improves the quality of our delivery and helps us to meet the needs of our customers. Our vision is to empower our people to be their best by creating an environment where everyone’s contribution and voice is valued, where we have a collective sense of purpose and a community of empowered individuals working collaboratively.
As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we have signed the Women in Finance Charter, an initiative by HM Treasury and financial services firms to build a more balanced, fairer industry. We set a target to achieve more than 32% senior female representation by the end of 2020. We are proud to have met this target early across our European Operations population and have now set a new target of 40% women in leadership by the end of 2025.
Our recruitment practices ensure we look beyond traditional talent pools to attract diverse talent. In addition, we have continued to build on our comprehensive learning resources to empower our people to own their career development and increased focus on identifying and developing their talent.
