The Role:
Are you an experienced legal professional looking for a truly varied and impactful role? Miller is seeking a Senior Counsel to play a pivotal part in both our dynamic CSPR team and our Legal function. This is a unique hybrid position, offering the opportunity to lead on specialist matters while influencing strategy across the business.
• 3 days a week (Tuesday–Thursday): Head of Legal for the CSPR team, a fast-growing transactional business specialising in Credit Risk Insurance (CRI), Political Risk Insurance, and Surety solutions. You’ll support the CSPR business as it expands, particularly focusing on CRI, which protects insureds against credit defaults under a range of contracts.
• 2 days a week (Monday & Friday): Key member of Miller’s Legal team, contributing to all commercial legal matters and shaping the firm’s legal strategy.
What you’ll do:
Within the CSPR team:
• Lead on all legal matters, running the legal function for the team
• Draft and review policies with brokers
• Conduct file reviews and independent checks
• Provide non-reliance advice to clients on policy terms and conditions
• Advise clients on policy wording compliance with Basel directives
• Assist with claims and the restructuring of policies
Within the wider Legal team:
• Shape and implement Miller’s legal strategy
• Deliver effective legal advice to manage legal risk across the business
• Identify and control legal risk in new projects, systems, and procedures
• Provide training and support on legal developments
• Draft and negotiate contracts
• Liaise with external legal advisors and run litigation matters as required
• Mentor and develop junior team members
About you:
• Qualified Solicitor with a strong understanding of insurance law (ideally including Credit Risk Insurance and bank capital regulations)
• Around 10 years’ PQE, with experience in both private practice and in-house settings preferred
• Confident in policy drafting, contract negotiation, and providing practical legal advice in a commercial environment
• Able to work collaboratively and flexibly in a hybrid office environment (expected in-office three days per week)
