About the team:
The Legal team comprises 3 qualified solicitors and it ensures that Miller’s activities are carried out within a legal framework through agreements with clients, markets, suppliers and other third parties. The team finds solutions to legal issues, reviews and drafts contracts, oversees litigation, and advises on the interpretation of laws.
About the Role:
The Legal Counsel will play a pivotal role in managing legal risk, providing expert advice, and ensuring compliance across Miller's business operations globally. This role involves insurance-specific legal work, regulatory touchpoints, litigation management, general commercial issues, employment matters, and delivering training to the business. The Legal Counsel will contribute to the development and implementation of Miller's legal strategy across its global offices while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and ethical practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Strategy and Risk Management:
• Develop and implement Miller’s legal strategy to support business objectives and mitigate risks.
• Identify, evaluate, and manage legal risks, including those relating to new projects, systems, and procedures.
• Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations, advising on necessary implementations at Miller.
Insurance-Specific Legal Work:
• Review and draft a variety of insurance-related contracts.
• Provide advice on insurance law queries, including contract wording, placement strategies, liabilities, and broker duties.
• Assist with developing and reviewing internal policies and procedures.
Regulatory Compliance:
• Collaborate with the Compliance team to provide legal advice on regulatory matters and review contracts.
• Ensure contracts remain updated in response to regulatory changes and advise on complaints and fraud.
Litigation Management:
• Manage E&O matters, provide strategic advice, and liaise with external counsel.
• Handle and advise on commercial litigation and employment disputes, including settlement agreements and restrictive covenants.
General Commercial Work:
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts across various departments (e.g., Finance, IT, Operations).
• Address intellectual property queries, including trademarks, domain names, and copyright issues.
• Monitor third-party contracts and review global office leases.
Employment Matters:
• Provide support on restrictive covenants, consultancy agreements, and structural changes.
• Assist HR with disputes, new hires, and contract reviews.
Training and Legal Updates:
• Deliver training sessions on legal topics such as E&O, NDAs, and Procurement.
• Provide updates on new case law, statutes, and industry developments.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Qualified solicitor.
• Insurance experience essential; preference for insurance broking over underwriting.
• General corporate/commercial experience is advantageous.
• Familiarity with regulatory aspects of insurance impacting the legal function.
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
• Experience in litigation management and dispute resolution.
