The Role
Canopius is a market leading cyber insurer. We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to take over the Claims Manager position in our cyber claims team. We are looking to recruit a motivated and skilled individual who is dedicated to cyber as a class of business. This is rare opportunity to take over the management of a market leading cyber team at a top 5 Lloyd’s of London syndicate with global operations.
The team comprises one Senior Adjuster and two Adjusters.
In March 2023, Canopius in-sourced its Cyber Incident Management function; the initial triage of cyber incidents, arranging of assistance from our panel, and project managing the incident response process. Whilst the management responsibility for this new function will remain within the remit of the Head of Specialty Claims, the Claims Manager will need to work closely with this function, currently comprising sub-teams in London, Sydney, and Chicago, to develop the service.
Responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for managing cyber as a portfolio whilst additionally handling their own share of claims on a day to basis; often claims which are complex, high value, and/or making news headlines.
- Proactively manage the Cyber claims team in all aspects: day to day workload management and claims specific queries, through to career progression.
- You will ensure effective oversight of delegated claims authority holders (“DCAs”), service providers or outsource partners, who provide services in respect of your team, flagging any issues of concern to the Head of Specialty Claims and proposing a plan to remediate these concerns.
- Collaborative working partnership with underwriters to help them to develop business in accordance with their business plan
- You will monitor the profitability of the accounts in your portfolio, by reviewing the actual versus expected and ensure that there is meaningful claims input into monthly tracking meetings and quarterly reserving meetings, and to flag areas of the claims portfolio that are underperforming to underwriters, actuaries and management.
- You will demonstrate and ensure effective, appropriate and meaningful collaboration between you and your team, and key internal customers within Canopius (underwriting, actuarial, outwards reinsurance, finance, senior management, catastrophe management, risk, compliance, operations, HR and all other stakeholders).
Skills and experience:
- Lloyd’s claims scheme and related claims handling systems
- Coverholder management and oversight
- A proven track record of effective management of cyber claims demonstrating a high level of technical competency.
- Knowledge of key issues affecting the cyber insurance market
- Team leadership and development, including leading by example to role model the Canopius Claims Vision and Values
- The ability to manage key stakeholder relationships
- Delivering results under pressure and prioritising workloads effectively
- Excellent communication skills both written and spoken, including the ability to represent Canopius in a professional manner
- Computer literacy in standard business software including MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook
