The Role
The team is seeking an Assistant Underwriter to underwrite and assist with the management of the Property, Casualty, Inland Marine, Commercial Auto and Homeowners classes of business written via Binding Authorities issues to a network of MGA’s (Coverholders)
Responsibilities will include:
- Assess and underwrite renewal business in a timely and efficient manner
- Assist Underwriters with underwriting new business opportunities
- Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and clients
- Analyse terms, specification, actuarial analysis and rating on prospective and existing business
- Analyse monthly Bordereau reports. This includes identifying risks outside contract guidelines and working with the MGA’s to rectify.
- Analyse data, including rating, terms etc of the portfolio as a whole as well as individual Binding Authorities – working with all data sources within the company
- Identify and implement ways to streamline underwriting processes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal procedures
- Compile underwriting reports as appropriate
- Assist with the administration of risks including regulatory requirements for delegated authorities.
- Monthly reporting of premium income figures and other ad-hoc reporting
- Liaise with underwriting back up and support teams
Skills and experience:
- General knowledge of insurance and underwriting within Lloyd’s marketplace
- Good general knowledge of the Property, Auto and Liability Delegated Authority classes
- Knowledge of wordings, slips and binding authorities is preferable but not essential.
- Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Power BI
- Data mining, statistical modelling and data visualisation
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Desire to expand knowledge within the industry via professional exams
