Role: Underwriting Assistant
Function / Area: Underwriting Operations
Reports To: Underwriting Operations Manager
Position Summary
Under general supervision, supports the underwriters in the review and processing of new and renewal accounts for the UK.
Undertakes routine procedures on assignments of low/moderate complexity and general support to underwriters.
Key Responsibilities
- May, within designated authority and following established procedures, perform routine evaluation, and pricing of low complexity risks.
- Assists underwriters by communicating with brokers and other departments e.g. Billings and Collections, Actuarial etc
- Requests underwriting information from brokers.
- Follow up activity with brokers/UWs/CSC
- Link between Underwriting and CSC
- Issues and assembles quotes and policies upon receipt of underwriter approval.
- Processes new and renewal business including some data entry into system, population of relevant systems, file make-up and policy issuance
- Upon request from underwriters, processes mid-term adjustments
- May provide assistance and/or training to other Underwriting Assistants.
- Review of data quality in core policy administration systems
- Maintain standards and operational risk controls
- May assist in special project work.
- Comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and ensure, at a level appropriate to the position, that appropriate measures are in place to ensure this compliance.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to work at high levels of productivity and quality.
- Ability to work independently on multiple tasks.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong desire to develop knowledge and understanding of underwriting.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
- Knowledge of policy processing procedures and documentation.
- Knowledge of applicable insurance products.
- Developing decision-making skills.
- Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position.
