The opportunity:
We’re looking for the next Head of Education and C&SO (Charities & Social Organisations) for Zurich Municipal (ZM). Zurich Municipal is a leading provider of insurance and risk management solutions for the public and voluntary sectors. We provide insurance for organisations of all sizes across the UK, from insuring a large local authority to small community groups.
As a certified function under the SMCR, you will have ownership of the financial delivery and customer experience for two incredibly exciting areas of our business. You’ll be navigating a complex market environment whilst building relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You’ll be a critical member of the ZM Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Managing Director, at the heart of shaping our wider strategy and ensuring that a range of priorities are delivered for each of our core stakeholder groups. This role also has the responsibility to lead both Underwriting and Sales teams during an exciting time of evolution at ZM.
This role is a Certification Regime role that is subject to Fitness & Propriety standards under the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR). The successful candidate will be offered the position subject to the successful completion of Regulatory Reference requirements
What will you be doing?
- Defining and executing the market strategy for our customers, including schools, universities, colleges and the voluntary sector.
- Leading a diverse array of teams to deliver excellent customer outcomes, by dedicating time to build a high performing team with strong engagement and a focus on operational excellence.
- Balancing market dynamics and underwriting discipline in order to set and deliver financial plans.
- Maintaining a strong presence in the market, by acting as a key spokesperson and building relationships with key clients, partners and other external stakeholders.
- Taking an active role on the ZM Leadership Team and wider UK senior leadership group, to own and sponsor delivery of the strategy.

Our ideal candidate will be an established people leader who is confident they can support and motivate large teams, inspiring high-performance. You’ll need to set a clear direction and be able to juggle business priorities. We want someone who can make bold decisions and consider where to invest energy and resources to ensure operational delivery.
To be successful in this role, we believe you’ll need a high level of commercial acumen and understand the business levers that influence the financial result. You’ll also need to be comfortable working direct with customers, and engaging with our partners and other industry bodies, such as the Department for Education.
