Job Title: Technical Assistant Underwriter - Space
Division: Marine
Reports To: As per Beazley's organisation chart
Key Relationships: Brokers, Head of Business Unit, Underwriters, Claims Staff, Reinsurers, external Clients and suppliers
Job Summary:
To provide technical and underwriting support to the Space team and supervise and ensure that the administrative processes with the UCO are run as efficiently as possible to serve both internal and external clients.
To support and assist with the technical aspects of underwriting Space business.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical
- Evaluate and assess satellites, spacecrafts and launch vehicles technical risks in order to contribute to optimise underwriting profit.
- Evaluate and assess satellites, spacecrafts and launch vehicles claims.
- Stay proficient/fluent and reports on latest space engineering technologies and industry trends.
- Maintain and upgrade existing space databases and statistical space reliability models and produce new analytical tools as required, including work in collaboration with Beazley actuaries.
- Develop and make best value of network with the space engineering community and space industry.
Underwriting support
- Support underwriting risk assessment process.
- Support the UCO in the delivery of an effective and efficient administration service.
- Review reinsurance bordereaux.
- Accurately process and monitor space risks and data entries to ensure information is up to date.
- Prepare and provide statistics and information in order to serve the requirements of the underwriters.
- Produce ad hoc reports for the underwriters and other members of staff when requested.
- Interact with the underwriting support functions, i.e. claims, risk, compliance, to source information when necessary.
Broker/Client Interaction
- Liaise with brokers and other key partners in order to develop business relationships.
- Respond to client queries in an accurate and timely fashion to develop the brand image of Beazley.
- Provide a professional service to brokers in person, by email and on the telephone.
General
- Leverage networking opportunities within the business to develop best practice within Beazley.
- Develop best practice and disseminate business and class knowledge within the MAP
- Work with peers within the space team and MAP to maximise business opportunities and profitability within the department. This will include but not be limited to sharing market information, marketing sources and cross selling opportunities.
- Share and gather knowledge within the Beazley Group to ensure dissemination of best practice and maximise business opportunities and profitability across the Group.
- Production of presentations and marketing literature as required.
- Production of business plans/research documents for the Space account as required.

Personal Specification:
Education and Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor's Degree education in Engineering, ideally Aerospace Engineering
