Senior Pension Consultant - Pensions Consultant or Governance Specialist

Aon is recruiting for Senior Pensions Consultants to join the Trustee Retirement Consulting Team focussing on the governance of DB pension schemes. This is a key growth area in the UK for Aon’s Wealth Solutions business and this is an exciting opportunity to play your part in that.
This role can be office based at multiple UK offices including, Birmingham, Bristol, Epsom, Farnborough, Glasgow, Edinburgh Leeds, London, Manchester, or St. Albans. The role can also be hybrid providing full flexibility to suit various individual needs.

What the day will look like
You will be collaborating with colleagues across a variety of clients, with client interaction and client lead roles strongly encouraged and supported. You will be expected to own projects on your clients and drive these forward, from business as usual activity to more specialist areas, for example, operational reviews of Trustee Boards, strategic business planning, risk management, cyber security, benefit reviews or Pensions Dashboards. Our clients are mainly Trustees and Sponsors of private trust-based pension arrangements.
Some of the specific challenges you will be helping our clients overcome include:
- ensuring robust decision making, performance measurement, business planning and risk management
- supporting our in-house client teams in an increasingly difficult resourcing, recruitment and retention environment of pension team staff
- managing all risks including cybercrime and business continuity
- ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion are integrated to all aspects of scheme management
- ensuring a high level of knowledge and skills given the ever-changing environment
- providing support to develop and review relevant strategies and policies
- supporting on evolving communications strategies to ensure strong levels of member engagement
- the transition to the Pension Regulator’s General Code, including the Own Risk Assessment
- the ongoing management of pension committees and boards
Working with your colleagues, you’ll also help develop and market new client solutions, using expertise from within our specialist Governance team and Aon’s wider global services.

Skills and experience that will lead to success
- Relevant experience in a pensions environment
- Strong understanding of governance, including most or all of these areas; what it takes to make good decisions, risk management, performance monitoring/compliance and business planning
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable in leading discussions with all levels from Committee/Board members to more junior employees, with confidence in expressing your viewpoint
- Self-motivating, able to encourage and develop other colleagues, and work well within diverse teams including in a leadership role
- Whilst having the ability to advise at a strategic level, also having an eye for detail
- Ability to use problem solving skills and to then create solutions and implement change
- Collaborative approach to work alongside being able to make decisions as required
