It’s an exciting time to join Markel as our business grows, and we have a great opportunity for a Senior Business Development Manager to join our Partnerships team. The role will report into the Head of Partnerships Development and will be responsible for generating new business within the Partnerships channel. The main focus of the role will be to develop new business across Markel’s National Market’s full product and service range, with a strong focus, but not limited to, Before The Event (BTE) Insurance, Service products such as Legal/Tax advice and Professional Risks. You will work closely with the Head of Partnerships Development to meet agreed targets and growth ambitions. Our role offers a great basic salary + generous car allowance and annual bonus scheme.
What you’ll be doing:
- Development of new sales to prospective Partners, both for BTE and wider Markel product & services distribution
- Further develop the Partnership’s proposition in line with channel new business campaigns
- Build a pipeline of new business prospects, engaging with new contacts and establishing relationships
- Using your network to identify new prospects that fit with our Partnership’s strategic aims and build a market profile of Markel and the Partnerships channel
- Build solid relationships with key internal teams, including underwriting, claims, marketing, compliance and legal
- Develop awareness of competition and competitors’ actions, and feedback into the channel and marketing team
- Be the centre point for all new business enquiries that are driven from multiple sources, including internal from across the wider Markel network, marketing campaigns, referrals and own generated network
Our must haves:
- Strong previous experience working in business development/sales in commercial lines insurance
- Previous experience with securing and onboarding new Partners in the membership groups space would be desirable
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral and the ability to confidently present and develop pitches for new business opportunities
- Self-motivation and proactivity, able to work independently, sourcing new leads as well as fulfilling key development tasks working as part of a wider development team
- Excellent time keeping and a methodical working structure
- A good understanding and basic use of key applications, such as MS PowerPoint, Excel and Word
