We have an incredible opportunity to join as a Software Engineer Lead to join our engineering and delivery team.

Location: This role could be based in either of our offices with time spent working in the office and at home.

Salary and benefits: £51,300-£80,000 plus 16% bonus up to 32%, private medical cover, 38 days annual leave, excellent pension, 12x salary life assurance, career breaks, income protection, 3x volunteering days and much more .

The role

The Software Engineer Lead plays a critical role in the software development lifecycle (SDLC). They are responsible for design, development, and implementation of software projects, directly or through the coaching of other engineers. Combining engineering principles and knowledge of programming languages, software engineers provide solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements for end users.

Software Engineer Leads may have niche skills applicable to specific technologies, business units or organisations but fundamentally are responsible for both guiding technical aspects of a project and managing the team to ensure successful delivery, maintaining a strong commercial focus to optimise operational expenditure.

Key accountabilities:

Act as technical leader overseeing and implementing new features and functionality as well as changes and improvements to existing services.
Help to guide architectural decisions, ensuring that software is scalable/performant/resilient/maintainable and meets both business requirements and quality standards.
Provide expertise to solve complex technical issues and guidance on the best approaches and technologies to use.
Contribute to long-term technology strategy, capability runway and feature roadmaps, evaluating and recommending new tooling, technologies, and practices.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging and degrading technologies in a rapidly evolving environment.
Build and maintain relationships with strategic partners at a senior level to ensure maximum contribution from partner organisations.
Act as a bridge between engineering teams and other stakeholders, articulating the impact of software solutions on delivery costs/timescales, availability and functionality of services and systems, to ensure that IT solutions are fully considered as part of setting the business strategy.

What are we looking for? 

Understanding of design patterns, system architecture and security principles.
Seasoned developer with broad knowledge of the React Native programming language, its culture, frameworks and libraries, and able to solve problems by applying algorithms and appropriate data structures
Understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and infrastructure as code (IaC) practices.
Knowledge of security principles, including data protection, identity management, and secure coding practices.
Expertise in DevOps methodologies and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to streamline development and deployment processes.
