The Role

The role is responsible for supporting the Head of FP&A and Head of Expenses in the delivery of expense related financial management information and analysis within Financial Planning & Analysis, which includes; Monthly management reporting, Budgeting, Forecasting, Business Insight and Finance team development.

Responsibilities will include:

Business Partnering:

Develop strong working relationships with cost centre managers / budget holders of specific capabilities and understand their needs and requirements
Provide actual vs budget expense management with narrative, insightful analysis and recommendations
Support FP&A in communication and explanation of expense related financial information to other teams within Finance as well as the wider company

Process & Reporting:

Production of monthly MI and underlying analytical schedules across the expense areas within the profit and loss account
Be responsible for provision of month end adjustments and accruals
Review the output of the offshore Expense Management team
Preparing schedules and analysis for statutory accounting purposes

Budgeting & Forecasting:

Support the Head of FP&A, Head of Expenses and senior FP&A team members in production of quarterly and ad hoc forecasting across the expense areas of the income statement

Operations/IT/Change Specific:

Understanding of relevant fixed assets and intangible projects under construction
Forecasting and tracking of amortisation and deprecation
Ensuring correct capitalisation treatment is applied consistently
Change project capitalisation assessment
Detailed IT vendor expense management, including developing a robust cost control model
Partnering on the development of the multi-year Tech & Data and Change budget

Finance Team Development / Interaction:

Play an active and engaged part in the long-term development of FP&A team output and capabilities
Understand how the expense base impacts the company’s overall management and statutory result
Contribute new ideas for fresh analysis, continuous improvement of processes and making better use of technology
Work collaboratively and build relationships with other teams across the business, including overseas offices

Skills and experience:

Qualified accountant [CIMA/ACCA/ACA] or equivalent
Previous experience within FP&A and/or expense management
Previous experience of Business Partnering COO/IT/Change desirable
Good commercial and management accounting understanding within expenses management
Strong analytical and modelling skills (Advanced Microsoft Excel) as well as PowerPoint skills
TM1 and SUN experience beneficial, but not essential
Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
