Position Summary
Please note this role may be performed out of London or Manchester.
This role leads and directs UK Marine on our company platform and is accountable for business results through overall management, profitability, and business development of a book of business. In conjunction with senior management, works within the highest limits of authority with matrix reporting into the US. Has UK country-wide scope of responsibility leading managers in London and UK Regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for delivery of the financial plan for an assigned team/area.
- Direct the work activities and have full management responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate staff in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
- Coach, lead and develop underwriters and direct the development of underwriting training.
- Participate with senior management in the development and implementation of underwriting policy, marketing and business strategy.
- Develop and implement production, profitability and operating plans for enhancing the business and meeting strategic objectives.
- Review and direct the application of underwriting policy and pricing for all risks within an assigned book of business.
- Market products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community.
- Develop and maintain agency and/or broker relationships to ensure positive and profitable outcomes.
- Report business progress to senior management.
- Drives operational improvement and underwriting effectiveness through use of data and MI reporting
- Maintain current knowledge on geographic issues and regulations, industry activity and trends.
- Represent the company in industry trade groups.
- May perform additional duties as agreed.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of the marine market and products.
- Highly effective at leading, coaching and developing underwriting staff.
- Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skill and knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures.
- Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
- Advanced analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects.
- Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
- Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems.
- Ability to achieve business goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements.
