The opportunity:
This role involves underwriting relevant lines of business to meet agreed targets within business plan parameters. The focus is on Technology & Cyber product lines, primarily PI Cyber, and offering a full tech package to mid-market customers. The ideal candidate will elevate Markel's profile in the Tech sector, developing strong broker relationships and providing thought leadership. Responsibilities include collaborative work with claims colleagues, product innovation, and proactive customer engagement to enhance the overall customer experience.
What we ask of you:
- Raise Markel's profile in the Technology & Cyber sector and develop strong broker relationships.
- Create and provide thought leadership for the Tech Team.
- Collaborate with claims colleagues on broker and customer meetings to improve business development opportunities.
- Challenge wordings/clauses, lead in navigating the complexities of drafting & amending wordings/ clauses, and highlight concerns to Tech team lead and wordings team.
- Innovate within the product suite, providing input into the creation of new products and refining existing ones.
- Develop and manage key Tech-specific broker relationships and influence brokers to advance Markel's interests.
- Identify new distribution and Delegated/Coverholder opportunities and implement them where appropriate.
- Manage your own renewal book of business in line with appetite and strategy, including combined ratio targets.
- Actively market and promote Markel and our Tech offering in the insurance market.
- Review and underwriting of new and renewal risks using technical rating model.
- Work collegiately with Markel Tech PI & Cyber team to ensure appetite and objectives are alined.
What you will bring to the role:
- Have experience underwriting or broking within Technology and cyber lines.
- Have strong technical knowledge within Technology and Cyber lines.
- Have excellent relationships within the Technology market across a range of brokers
- Demonstrate a collegiate mentality and be able to work within a team of Underwriters
- Demonstrate a proactive and entrepreneurial approach

The Professional & Financial Risks (PFR) team specializes in international and UK-domiciled business, offering coverage up to £10m/€15m/$20m per risk. The team includes three business lines: Cyber & Technology, Management Liability, and Financial Institutions. They provide excellent service through expert underwriters, focusing on Technology product lines like PI Cyber and a new tech package for mid-market customers.
