Reports To: Class Manager
Position Summary
We are looking for a New Business Underwriter in our Technology Package team. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for the development of Technology Package business for an assigned panel of brokers within a defined geography.
The successful candidate will carry underwriting authority to enable them to review, quote and bind risks within set parameters with senior authority holders supporting referrals and technical development of the individual.
Key Responsibilities
- Review of broker presentations and proposal forms alongside company guidelines and standards and determines acceptability of the risk.
- Recommends appropriate pricing and coverage modifications or enhancements for risks after complete analysis and consideration of applicant documentation, business factors and competitive situations.
- Prepares quotations and answers questions from Brokers, internal and external contacts and escalates issues as necessary.
- Written and verbal communications on underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status, and declinations ensuring brokers have a clear understanding of our position.
- Portfolio awareness – understanding the quality, quantity, and profitability of risks underwritten and prepares reports for management review.
- Visible in the market promoting CNA’s products and capabilities.
- Develop and maintain positive Broker relationships.
- Maintains current knowledge on state/territory issues, regulations, and trends.
- Work with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.
- Develop proficiency in all relevant CNA systems.
- Ensure that data and MI is correct and up to date in the underwriting systems.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of underwriting and insurance principles and practices.
- Developing technical expertise and negotiation skills alongside strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- The ability to establish, maintain and develop relationships with internal and external peers & stakeholders.
- The ability to work independently and exercise judgement with a solution focused mindset.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
