About the Department & Team:
The London Surety team is comprised of nine Underwriters and three Underwriting Assistants who work together to support our customers, brokers, and business partners. The team combines underwriting expertise and operational support to provide timely, accurate, and customer-focused service. Our collaborative approach promotes knowledge sharing, operational excellence, and strong relationships, helping us deliver exceptional outcomes while supporting the continued growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Surety business through data entry activities, producing error free work through strong attention-to-detail. This includes but is not limited to prepare and execute new bonds, riders, enter rates and code new business, bond issuance, renewals, cancellations, endorsements, and reinstatements.
- Provide underwriting support to Surety Underwriting team (Underwriters, Managers, etc) and market leading service to internal and external customers, including brokers and clients within a defined territory. Assists with customer enquiries and questions, as well as the input of new bond transactions.
- Retrieve and update information using various systems as appropriate, including billing, workflow and database systems. Prepare and verify documents for accuracy prior to entering systems.
- Proactive management of receivables and assistance with billing, premium and commission discrepancies upon request.
- Management and maintenance of surety bank accounts including cash allocations, reconciliations and preparation of bank documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with internal and external customers.
- Review and reconcile internal system reports as directed by Manager
- Apply independent judgment to complete complex or specialized assignments/tasks working within defined policies and procedures to optimize planned business results.
- Apply technical knowledge of Surety Operations Processing policies and procedures acquired through experience in job area or through technical training. Identifies opportunities for process improvement and shares with manager and peers
- Perform technical support within the office and assist in the resolution of problems as appropriate.
- Process, coordinate and/or validate data and documents to ensure quality and customer satisfaction.
- Provide administrative and general office/clerical support as needed. May participate in key special projects as requested, and perform additional assignments as instructed by manager.
Skills and Experience:
- Relevant insurance or banking experience or related Underwriting Assistant experience with an emphasis in supporting complex transaction workflow.
- Learn quickly and demonstrate an open attitude when facing new problems, processes, or procedures. Take advantage of diverse sources by proactively seeking information to solve problems.
- Able to work effectively in a diverse team environment as well as independently.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize own workflow and complete assignments in a high-volume work environment producing accurate, error-free work to accomplish the most important individual and business objectives.
- Strong PC skills, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
