Overview
Are you ready to influence the future of risk management at one of the world's leading insurance brokerage companies? Gallagher is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to take on the pivotal role of Risk Manager for our UK operations.
As the Risk Manager, you will play a crucial role in shaping the development of our UK Enterprise Risk Management framework. You will lead the implementation and embedding of our risk management policy, framework, processes, and reporting within Gallagher's UK division (GGB-UK). Your responsibilities will include facilitating the assessment of key risk profiles, ensuring appropriate ownership, and driving action for risks that exceed accepted tolerance levels.
This is a vital second-line role within Gallagher, where you will influence the direction of ERM across the organisation and oversee the adoption of our centrally owned risk framework. You will collaborate closely with business units and first-line functions to challenge and ensure robust and consistent enterprise risk assessment and management.
In summary, this role requires a professional who can exert significant influence over the business, Executive team, and other control functions to support and facilitate the development and embedding of effective risk management practices across Gallagher.
How you'll make an impact
Business Partnering
- Operate as a key ERM (Enterprise Risk Management ) Business Partner with the Specialty business division and with Enterprise
- Solutions Functions as required.
- Provide challenge to the business on risk coverage and risk assessments and the adherence to
- risk appetite statements and limits.
- Review and challenge risk assessments conducted by first line functions to ensure
- appropriateness of coverage and consistency.
ERM Framework & System
- Support the ongoing embedding and enhancement of the ERM framework and its tools.
- Contribute to the maintenance of the ERM Framework taking into account business feedback.
- Support the use of ERM systems and processes by the business.
- Support the ERM Team, subject matter experts and first line functions in the management,
- analysis and review of risk events.
- Support and challenge root cause analysis for risk events.
Risk and Controls Processes
- Lead the assessment and moderation of elements of Gallagher's risk profile, Board Risks,
- Enterprise Solutions and Business Division Risks
- Attend key business meetings in a second line capacity providing both advice and robust
- challenge on business risks and mitigation actions.
- Facilitate the escalation processes, including risk events and appetite breaches in accordance
- with enterprise risk management policy. Drive effective root-cause analysis.
Risk Reporting
- Production of timely and relevant risk management information and reporting to key governance forums, Business Division Risk and Conduct Forums, GGB-UK Executive and Risk Committees
About You
- Preferably to Degree level (but not essential if sufficient practical experience in risk management).
- Preferably a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute or the Institute of Risk Management.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of risk practices and techniques and governing regulations.
- Experience of operating in the London / Speciality insurance market.
- Risk management exposure – ideally within insurance, broking or underwriting environments or wider financial services;
- Insurance / Reinsurance sector, including broking environment desirable.
- Highly accurate and pays attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal skills, including listening, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the Company, including senior level management.
- Good presentation skills with experience interacting and presenting to colleagues/senior management.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Problem-solving mind-set with the ability to develop creative approaches and solutions.
- Diligent approach.
