The opportunity:
It’s an exciting time to join Markel as our business grows. We have just moved into brand-new innovative offices in Leeds city centre right next to the train station, and we currently have a new opportunity for an Underwriting Support Assistant to join our highly respected team in Leeds (3 days in the office / 2 days working from home). This exciting opportunity is based within the renewals department and you will work as part of the PMR/Liability team providing an excellent underwriting service for underwriters and brokers in the UK.
What you’ll be doing:
- Underwriting risks in accordance within own personal level of underwriting authority
- Provide excellent service to our brokers, prioritising renewals and mid-term adjustments and referrals whether emanating from the broker e-trading platform, Acturis or by email/phone to ensure deadlines are met
- Ensure incoming calls to the team are answered promptly and professionally
- Diarise and follow up renewals with brokers with the purpose of securing and retaining business
- Deal with internal and external enquiries by email and telephone
- Review broker generated activities and encourage brokers to deal with Markel by highlighting our product benefits and negotiating terms
- Manage renewal cases working as appropriate with the broker to secure renewal and upsell/ cross-sell additional covers
- Managing diary items and chasing responses
- Following up outstanding renewal information with brokers via phone and email
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the Technical teams in Leeds and the wider business
- Assisting the team and wider business with ad hoc projects
Our must haves:
- Proven relevant insurance experience and demonstrable technical skills
- Background and experience in our classes of business is desirable, but not necessary
- Excellent written, spoken communication and numerical skills
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrable IT skills including MS Office
- Knowledge of Acturis is preferred but not a requirement
- Be willing to study for CII qualifications – fully funded and supported by the company
