The opportunity:
You will join a team that is dedicated to the Markel Wholesale IT function who ensure IT services are aligned to the needs of the business, drive cost efficiency and contribute to the long-term success of the organization.
We are looking for a highly competent and motivated technical individual for this role, to join a talented and experienced team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Investigate, triage, and manage incidents and requests
- Agree and clearly communicate business priorities and outcomes to all stakeholders
- Work on-call with peers on bridge calls to support the major incident and rollout processes
- Proactively lead initiatives, including problem resolution, change and release activities
- Support development, and release of project deliverables, ensuring the correct governance is applied
- Write scripts in one or more scripting languages to resolve issues, and automate
- Ensure controls and auditability are maintained on all support and development activities
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of team Procedures, Policies, and documentation
- Coordinate 3rd party suppliers and IT partners, to resolve business issues and team activities
- Thorough and timely communication with Business and wider Information Technology teams
- Support identification of IT & Business risks and propose mitigating actions
- Complete and maintain detailed service documentation, record incident and support activity in approved IT tools
- Complete time tracking records in a timely manner
Our must-haves:
- Experience of scripting development, ideally with hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL
- Qualification or equivalent experience in Computer Science or information Systems
- Working knowledge of the ITIL service management lifecycle
- An understanding of the end-to-end project lifecycle
- Experience supporting key business applications within a financial systems business
- Experience working in a regulated industry, ideally SOX or Solvency II
- Experience of working in a business facing role using strong people skills and collaborative approach
- Hands-on experience with system monitoring tools such as LogicMonitor, Redgate Monitor or similar.
