We have an opportunity a permanent Infrastructure Specialist to join our IT Department. The successful candidate will report into the Infrastructure Operations Manager and will be responsible for planning, designing, developing, and the launch of efficient operational systems to support core organisational functions; this includes all IT Projects, Continual Service Improvement, and BAU activities. They will have proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve systems issues to maximise the benefit of the IT environments.
- Assist in the strategic design and implementation of the core infrastructure to ensure its high availability as well as own and manage service improvement plans
- provide 3rd line IT support, act upon and resolve incidents escalated to the Infrastructure Operations team from the Service Desk and other support teams within agreed timescales.
- Assist in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new services and enhancements to existing services within Infrastructure Operations
- Ownership of systems used for monitoring, backups, disaster recovery and security patching
- Ensure compatibility and interoperability on computing systems
- Review and analyse the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving implementation decisions
- Conduct research on hardware and software products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts and service improvement activity
- Proactively assist in the design and implementation of long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans for managing and maintaining corporate systems and software
- Develop, document, communicate and enforce a policy and procedures for standardising systems and software as necessary
- Maintain availability of Production systems to agreed service levels
- Perform preventative maintenance checks and action when required
- Display open collaboration and communication as per Agile and DevOps ways of working when required
- Show ownership of own self-development using training material and identify ways to continuously improve
- Manage, build, support and maintain all server components within the environment
- Work with the IT Program Manager on the yearly IT Essential Maintenance program.
The successful candidate must have strong technical skills and knowledge of technologie including Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra ID and ideally SQL Server or Snowflake, Microsoft 365 services and public cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. As well as previous experience working with a variety of technology stacks for compute, storage, virtualisation, and network products ideally including of VMware, Cisco UCS or similar, Pure or other similar SAN. It is desired that they will have some knowledge of DevOps principals and technologies such as Terraform and Ansible, and scripting languages such as Python, YAML and PowerShell. Also working knowledge/awareness of Agile, Kanban methodologies, ITIL V3/4 accreditation, and or any public cloud practitioner certifications would be beneficial. They will have strong interpersonal & communication skills and the ability to produce documentation to a high standard and understand the importance of sharing knowledge with support teams at different levels. They must be a team player and possess ability to react swiftly to customer issues as well as displaying excellent time management. The role also involves some on-call, weekend work and shift-based hours on a rota between 09:00-17:00 or 08:00-16:00.
