How does this role contribute to our collective success?
The Capital Risk Solutions (‘CRS’) team provide credit insurance to commercial and investment banks, multilateral development banks and export credit agencies. The global team is located in London, Singapore, Zurich and Bermuda with an underwriting strategy that focuses primarily on project finance, aircraft finance and significant risk transfer as well as other structured credit transactions.
You will be responsible for originating, managing, and executing transactions from across CRS core markets in close cooperation with the wider CRS team, playing a key role in our goal of creating a profitable worldwide portfolio of credit risk for AXIS.
What will you do in this role?
- Attract new business that fits within the global CRS underwriting criteria from existing and new customers across our core markets.
- Develop relationships with brokers and customers, marketing CRS capabilities and appetite.
- Discuss new opportunities, deal pipeline and ideas with the Head of CRS and wider CRS underwriting and analytical team on a frequent basis ensuring aligned underwriting strategy and knowledge sharing across the global CRS platform.
- Review submissions, providing feedback and determine which transactions to develop further via additional analysis, peer discussion, engagement with customer and portfolio management review.
- Perform analysis of in-depth information (in the form of bank memos, credit papers, presentations, financial models, data tapes, rating reports etc.) making assessment of the risk and providing recommendations to the Head of CRS on proposed CRS participation.
- Present transactions via a deal teaser to credit committee prior to working with analytical and legal teams to compile a final deal memo at point of binding.
- Be actively engaged with the credit insurance and bank loan markets interacting via informal catch ups, meetings, presentations, webinars and conferences.
- Attend and speak at conferences to present the CRS offering and develop our network.
- Review and respond to waiver requests and policy endorsements to ensure smooth running of the insured portfolio.
- Play a central role, liaising with Head of CRS, Credit Portfolio Management, CRS legal and claims in the management of the portfolio including reporting on early warning signs of stress through to potential claim settlement and the recovery process.
You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.
About You:

What we prefer you to have:
- A minimum of 8 years market experience working within a credit underwriting or credit insurance broking role or as part of a bank asset finance or credit risk distribution team.
- Finance related qualifications (such as CFA) desirable.
- Critical thinker with an ability to digest and summarize large quantities of complex information for the benefit of a wider audience.
- Confident in forming independent opinions, able to make recommendations on risk and underwriting strategy and working constructively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills, with an ability to adapt style to fit the audience, purpose and level of priority.
- Strong negotiator with an ability to take a clear stance on commercial and risk positions in a constructive manner.
- Appreciation of wider trends in insurance and financial markets as well as developments in geo-politics.
- Proficient user of Excel, Capital IQ and bespoke credit models.

In this role, you will typically be required to:
Be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
Travel internationally and occasionally at weekends as required.
Attend broker and customer events in evenings and occasionally at weekends as required.
