The Role
We are seeking an Underwriter to join our Credit and Political Risk team. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to develop their skills in non-payment insurance sourced from traders, banks, and public agencies. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic and collaborative team environment, where you will be supported in expanding your network of relationships to generate accretive income for the business.
The successful candidate will contribute to day-to-day underwriting of a diverse pool of risks, team strategy, management of existing and new client relationships, claims management, reinsurance, and internal reporting. The role also requires proposing underwriting parameters for specific sectors and taking ownership of growth initiatives within the business.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain personal relationships with key brokers and clients
- Assist in the development and execution of distribution and marketing plans to secure targeted, profitable income
- Formulate independent opinions and recommendations on corporate, sovereign and project risk
- Perform country and sector risk analyses in collaboration with the team analysts
- Contribute to daily risk committee discussions
- Work with the claims team and internal legal counsel to resolve claims, including workouts and restructurings
- Support the business planning and forecasting process where appropriate
Skills and Experience:
- Proven track record in Credit & Political Risk underwriting
- Strong understanding of financial concepts
- Active engagement with market trends and developments
- Excellent listening, negotiation, and marketing skills
- Strong statistical and analytical skills for data interrogation and interpretation
- Proficient in Excel, Bloomberg, and S&P Capital IQ
- Ability to understand and develop business processes, strategy, and planning.
- Strong ability to build and maintain solid working relationships with colleagues, brokers, and insureds.
