The opportunity:
It’s an exciting time to join Markel as our NMUK Direct division launches our brand-new Broker sales team. Due to this growth we have an exciting, brand new opportunity for a Head of Broking to join our team based in our Manchester office. The Caunce O’Hara broking team provides specialist insurance services to contractors, consultants, freelancers, and self-employed professionals through the Caunce O’Hara and OLLO brands. We offer a comprehensive range of insurance coverage, including professional indemnity, public liability, employers' liability, directors and officers liability, property, occupational personal accident, legal representation and employment cover, and cyber insurance. Customers can obtain quotes and purchase coverage directly through our websites or receive assistance from our team of insurance experts over the telephone. We have ambitious plans for growth to expand our presence within our target sectors.
This new role within our broker team will report directly to the Divisional Director of Direct. As an established and knowledgeable insurance broker, you will be responsible for leading and motivating the broking team to deliver against the planned growth strategy for this brand-new offering.
Your role will be wide and varied with tasks including; The overseeing of a broking team, engagement with the operational team around systems & processes and engagement with the insurer panel. You will have the strength and passion to push this business forward and be the key to driving long term sustainable growth, providing insights and experience to ensure the delivery of a high-quality experience to customers. You will need to be organised, a strategic problem solver and dedicated to providing and developing a leading insurance broker in the small commercial sector.
The successful candidate will seek to improve the team’s performance by managing workflow, monitoring brokers, and providing constructive feedback to enhance individual performance to on company goals.
What you’ll be doing:
- Understanding and following with all internal and regulatory body rules around compliance and regulation
- Encouraging a positive environment within the team and consistently improving team performance, customer happiness, and problem-solving
- Creating and delivering the strategic approach to ensure success against all targets
- Leading and motivating the broking department to provide a world-class service to our customers
- Driving forward system changes to implement customers’ requirements with a high level of accuracy
- Overseeing the recruiting and onboarding of new team members effectively
- Serving as the escalation point for all customer complaints and seeking resolutions that ensure favourable customer outcomes
- Raising technical issues appropriately, using data to define the scope of the problem.
- Overseeing the attainment of individual and team targets aligned with established and regularly reviewed standards
- Maintaining constant communication within the team and exhibiting flexibility to adapt to evolving practices and work priorities
Our must haves:
- Experience of a management role within the broking industry
- Strong leadership skills
- Experience of working with insurer partners as capacity providers
- Technical knowledge of commercial insurance products including understanding of the coverage provisions, exclusions, and conditions of the policy wordings
- An understanding of the legal principles of insurance and insurance contracts including the company's obligations to insurers
- Strong organisational skills and time management abilities
- Performance management with a focus on delivering high-quality customer experiences
- Ability to work cooperatively and adaptively with other team members
- Attention to detail and effective communication skills
- Professionalism, integrity, and commitment
- Capacity to work in a fast paced dynamic environment
- CII qualification or working towards obtaining the qualification
- Proven ability to lead teams to achieve high performance
