Aon has an exciting opportunity to join the Delegated Consulting Services (DCS) team in London as a Senior Client Portfolio Manager. DCS, which is more generically known as implemented consulting or fiduciary management, is Aon’s offering to EMEA clients to help them manage and outsource some or all of their day-to-day investment decision making and implementation. You would sit within the portfolio management team in Aon’s asset management business (AIL), which is FCA authorised. We do not directly manager securities, but instead create portfolios of specialist third-party managers.
The role would comprise of portfolio management, people management, and business development responsibilities.
You will focus on managing our largest client portfolios in line with the strategy determined by the Investment Strategy Committee and clients’ unique situations and considerations.
You will also take a leading role within the team on attending client meetings, and other business development activities like new business pitches and third party evaluator meetings.
Portfolio management
- You will become a lead portfolio manager for a range of large clients. This includes:
- Fully discretionary mandates where you will ensure that house views are reflected in portfolios in a consistent and timely manner.
- OCIO mandates where DCS does all the implementation of mandates, but the investment decisions (eg strategic asset allocation, tactical asset allocation, manager selection) can be made either by the client or DCS. For OCIO mandates, you will work with clients, their investment consultant, and operations teams to create portfolios and governance structures that meet the client’s needs.
- You will input into the Investment Strategy Committee to help with multi-asset portfolio construction to add value for our discretionary clients relative to their benchmarks.
- You will monitor portfolios on an ongoing basis to ensure they comply with restrictions.
- You will own and manage client transitions from a PM team perspective, working with the transitions team and investment consultants where relevant.
Business development
- You will be a trusted expert that meets with third-party evaluators to explain Aon’s offering for all clients. You will develop new solutions to bring to market.
- You will work with Aon’s Portfolio Specialist team to drive high level client messaging about portfolio positioning, performance, and the investment outlook.
- You will be comfortable talking to clients that have varying levels of technical knowledge and bringing Aon’s best ideas to them as a trusted strategic partner.
- You may attend new business pitches.
- You may attend business to business meetings to build relationships with other firms across the industry.
People management
- You will manage more junior colleagues, taking an active role in supporting their engagement, development, and progression.
Essential skills
- At least 10 years’ experience working in asset management, investment consultancy, or an allied industry.
- Experience of multi-asset portfolio construction and portfolio management.
- An understanding of pension scheme liabilities and the key drivers.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Organised and calm under pressure, able to work to tight deadlines.
- Ability to interpret and present complex information clearly.
- Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients, prospects, and other businesses in the industry.
Preferred skills
- An investment qualification – FIA or CFA preferred.
- Experience of managing people.
