About the Role:
Everest Managing Agency (re Syndicate 2786) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Syndicate Financial Controller to join our team. This role leads the Syndicate Accounting team consisting of three direct reports and will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely completion of syndicate group and local reporting requirements, including those of the related legal entities (Service Company, Corporate Member and Managing Agent). The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Lloyd's syndicate operations, regulatory reporting, financial accounting and control principles.
Role & Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Financial Close & Control
- Own and manage the Syndicate, service company, corporate member and managing agency month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes, ensuring accuracy, discipline, and adherence to timetable for both local and group reporting.
- Maintain oversight of general ledger integrity, reconciliations, accounting adjustments, and judgmental areas.
- Act as the escalation point for complex accounting issues and financial close‑related risks.
Regulatory & External Reporting
- Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and Group reporting standards, including audit support and coordination.
- Maintain strong working relationships with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
- Support the production and submission of Syndicate financial returns to Lloyd’s and other relevant local regulators.
Financial Control Framework
- Own and develop the Syndicate Financial Control Framework, including documentation of processes, risk and control matrices, and financial narratives.
- Drive continuous improvement in controls, governance, and process efficiency, including identification of automation opportunities.
Systems, Data & Change
- Provide finance ownership over ledger, reporting, and close‑related systems, including oversight of enhancements and remediation activities.
- Support finance transformation initiatives impacting Syndicate reporting, processes, or governance.
- Provide valuable insight to the Data Transformation Project aimed at replacing the current Group data warehousing capability and development of sub-ledgers for enhanced reporting.
- Ensure finance requirements are appropriately reflected in system design and change delivery.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of three direct reports.
- Set performance objectives, conduct regular check-ins, and support the professional growth of team members
- Ensure appropriate resource allocation and cross-training to support peak reporting periods.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as a senior finance partner to the Syndicate CFO, providing insight on financial performance, close quality, and control matters.
- Liaise closely with Group Finance, Actuarial, Investment Accounting, Operations, IT, and local finance teams to resolve issues impacting reporting or controls.
- Represent Syndicate Finance in cross‑functional forums, projects, and steering committees.
- Provide support to the wider Syndicate CFO and wider Syndicate Finance teams as required to ensure that teams overall objectives are achieved.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with significant post qualification experience within the Lloyd’s of London market.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge and understanding of the financial and regulatory landscape.
- Excellent knowledge of the Lloyd’s market, including the Xchanging and LCA processes.
- Experience of working with underwriting and claims teams along with the policy and claims administration systems used.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Good communication skills, ability to interact at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with Oracle ERP is preferable.
- Knowledge of core market returns (CMR), market data collection (MDC) and reporting forms required by Lloyd’s (and FCA/PRA where equivalent) is a plus.
- Previous management experience or evidence strong leadership skills is required.
