UK Financial Controller & Head of Accounting Technical Policy (12 months’ FTC)
The UK Financial Controller & Head of Accounting Technical Policy reports directly into the Group Head of Financial Control and collaborates closely with the UK CFO. You will be primarily responsible for developing and maintaining the Group accounting policies and defining an effective mechanism to ensure Group-wide compliance with accounting policies. Furthermore, you’ll act at the UK Financial Controller with accountability for the CIL financial accounting processes and controls. As our successful candidate, you will embody the Convex

Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance on all accounting matters aligned with GAAP standards.
- Develop and maintain the Group Accounting Policies taxonomy to establish clear guidelines.
- Implement an effective mechanism to ensure Group-wide compliance with accounting policies.
- Conduct ongoing assessments and provide comprehensive reports on the development of accounting standards, including their potential impact on the Group and Risk Bearing Legal Entities (RBLE).
- Take the lead in addressing technical matters with Group and RBLE auditors.
- Provide essential support for monthly, quarterly, and annual balance sheet reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Act as the CIL financial controller, enforcing adherence to European regulatory and statutory reporting requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
- Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide valuable insight and new ideas that drive the continuous improvement in how we operate.
- Operate as an integral part of the cyclical financial close process, supporting where necessary.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Qualified Accountant with robust experience in commercial insurance/reinsurance companies.
- Sound technical knowledge of accounting concepts/theories and how they apply to the insurance industry. This furthermore includes:
- experience of running and improving financial reporting and close processes;
- experience in dealing with financial statement complexity (including earning, amortization, etc), understanding financial position and key P&L drivers, and interfacing with CFOs.
- Experience identifying business issues, owning responsibility for the quality of deliverables, managing stakeholder relationships, and developing persuasive recommendations.
- Critical thinking coupled with advanced analysis and problem-solving techniques. Business / data analysis and Excel skills are essential.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, with business stakeholders.
- Deploy good judgement in managing competing and conflicting priorities.
