Job Summary:
This role involves Casualty Underwriting for large (may include multinational), complex or specialist cases across Asia. The position will require the employee utilizing the methods necessary to meet projected profitability, GWP, and expense goals, implementing proper underwriting disciplines/guidelines, and marketing and servicing to existing and potential clients. The position will also require the administration and monitoring of underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating rules and models.
For the Senior Underwriter position, the employee may be required to take case referrals from distribution channel underwriters, and provide technical guidance, assistance and training.
Job Duties:
- Underwriting functions including direct as well as inward-facultative underwriting submission review, pricing analysis, setting of terms and conditions, and quote/binder/invoice authorizations.
- Responsible for the profitable growth of designated geographies and their specific brokers or cedants
- Execute approved General Casualty business plan to establish and develop balanced and diverse book of business in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
- Set appropriate terms and conditions following the Company’s business strategy to quote selected risks.
- Exercise proper underwriting and pricing discipline to meet profitability goals, comply with underwriting guidelines, systems and procedures.
- Maintain underwriting files in an orderly manner and in accordance with underwriting guidelines
- Expand existing portfolio of business by developing existing relationships and new prospective clients.
- Interact with existing and prospective clients, brokers, re-insurers and other business partners in support of the business.
- Liaise with internal auditors, Claims, Actuarial, Accounting, IT and Legal departments as appropriate.
- Business travel within SEA region may be required.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- College degree or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years (Underwriter) and minimum 5 years (Senior Underwriter) of experience in the Commercial Insurance sector, preferably in underwriting and/or a core focus in the Casualty class of business.
- At least 3 years Casualty underwriting experience for Senior Underwriter.
- The candidate needs to have strong fundamentals in underwriting principles, pricing, and knowledge of policy wordings.
- A self-starter, who can work independently while also being able to work within Casualty team and in conjunction with other functional departments.
- Good communication skills and proficient in MS Office Suite
