Job Summary:
You will be responsible for developing the Asia Accident & Health (“A&H”) business, with a focus on Singapore direct market and reinsurance inward business from Asia markets, in accordance with projected profitability, financial goals and underwriting guidelines. You will employ methods necessary to meet projected profitability, GWP and expense goals, by implementing different product solutions, developing and executing underwriting strategies, marketing, and servicing of existing and potential clients.
The role requires that you administer and monitor underwriting rules, pricing and guidelines, handle day-to-day case underwriting and various aspects of product development.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Leading the development and execution of strategies for the Asia A&H portfolio, agreeing the associated risk appetite, underwriting philosophy and pricing strategy, in order to achieve the agreed business targets
· Monitoring and reporting on portfolio performance, recommending adjustments as necessary to ensure achievement of financial goals
· Ensuring the long-term development of the Asia A&H portfolio through product development based on portfolio performance, market intelligence, R&D insight, legal developments and emerging risks
· Working with the Distribution Channels to develop strategies for A&H business, aiming to provide holistic insurance solutions in the SME and consumer segments
· Working with various functions such as Actuarial, Claims and Legal to ensure Policy Wordings, Underwriting Guidelines, Pricing tools and all other relevant tools are up to date
· Working with IT and related project teams on various online product initiatives
· Actively contributing to the development of segment and local customer propositions, and associated sales planning and account development, bringing knowledge and insight of the market and its risks, proactively identifying opportunities to increase penetration of existing customers and expand the business mix
· Performing technical underwriting of A&H products across a range of risk sizes, within the authorized framework Reviewing non-standard case referrals from Distribution Channels and delivering underwriting decisions, following agreed processes at the designated authority level
· Providing expert advice, guidance and coaching to less experienced colleagues to address technical referrals and raise standards and expertise across the technical community
· Leading and/or contributing to technical audits and peer review processes as required to support and enable the maintenance of an effective control environment
· Ensuring internal systems and processes are in place and working effectively to support the business needs
· Representing Allied World externally, taking a leading role in influencing market expectations, direction, standards and legislation in line with Allied World’s best interests and commercial priorities and promoting Allied World as a leading insurer
· Coordinating with back-office functions to ensure streamlined operations
Qualifications
Knowledge, skills and abilities requirement
· Extensive relevant technical knowledge with a focus in Singapore direct business and Facultative reinsurance markets in Asia
· 10+ years of experience and knowledge in Accident & Health underwriting
· Experienced in underwriting complicated A&H cases independently
· Able to convey and build a positive external perception of Allied World’s technical capabilities
· Able to plan, prioritize, and organize work; effectively resolve conflicts among priorities
· Able to develop solutions to problems; evaluate courses of action and reach logical conclusions
· Always maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity and trust
· Able to interface with employees and management at various levels within Allied World
· Experience in product development processes and coordinating with different internal counterparts
· Strong marketing, negotiation and presentation skills
