Senior Actuarial Analyst
Department: Capital Modelling
Reporting to: Deputy Head of Model Development
Job Description
This role works within the Capital Modelling team, working on the development of AXIS’s internal model, which is built on the Tyche software platform. Your responsibilities will include updating and developing the internal model & reporting tools; improving parameterisation methodologies & updating model parameters; carrying out validation tests & deep-dives into model performance.
Job Responsibilities
Model Development
• Maintaining and developing the internal model system; encompassing the internal model and supporting tools for inputs, analysing outputs and creating reports
• Developing and implementing new modelling methods
• Improving model performance, in particular for run time and memory use
• Understanding and communicating the limitations of modelling methodologies
• Undertaking ad hoc investigations and developments where required
Parameterisation
• Developing parameterisation methodologies and building tools to implement them
• Updating model parameters; understanding and explaining the resulting movements
• Understanding and communicating the limitations of parameterisation methodologies and the input data used for them
Validation and governance
• Carrying out appropriate validation of model methods and parameters, to ensure that the model operates as intended, and to enhance understanding of the model and guide future model developments
• Designing tools and processes to ensure model governance polices are followed
Leadership and relationships
• Presenting and explaining results and decisions to various levels within the company
• Engaging with other teams and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of results
• Providing advice and training to other members of the capital team
About You
Required Qualifications and Experience:
• 2+ years of in-depth experience in an actuarial risk environment
Other Desired Skills & Characteristics:
• Highly computer literate, able to use spreadsheets, databases and learn the use of new systems
• Experience in using capital modelling software such as Tyche, Igloo or ReMetrica
• Tyche is preferred but not essential; more important is being willing and able to get under the hood of the capital model and develop a deep understanding of what is going on in there
• Additional coding experience is a plus
• Enthusiasm to ask questions and fully understand the work we carry out and its implications for the business
• Capable of developing and maintaining effective relationships at all levels
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Ability to plan effectively and organise and prioritise workload; strong attention to detail
• Ability to structure analyses and modelling coherently and clearly
