Our Portfolio Underwriting team manages and underwrites the Beazley Smart Tracker, and the Portfolio Analyst plays a key role. This is one of the most exciting growth areas of the company and the position will suit a highly motivated, organised individual with an analytical and inquisitive mind who enjoys working with a broad array of data covering all manner of insurance lines. You’ll need to know your way around a spreadsheet, SQL query and Power BI report creation as you’ll have ownership of all management information reporting as well as manage the data shared internally and externally. Job Summary:
A key role within the most exciting growth area of the company, suitable for a highly motivated, organised person with an analytical and inquisitive mind who enjoys working with a broad array of data covering all manner of insurance lines. The role sits at the heart of the Portfolio Underwriting division, with ownership of provision of management information reporting, and management of data shared internally and externally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Aligning information between our Policy System, BDX and Claims - deriving insights to support the Portfolio Underwriting Team
- Transforming existing data points and assist the underwriting team in advancement of market data standards
- Develop the team’s reporting capabilities to better utilise Beazley group data with BDX and claim data to increase the Portfolio Underwriting portfolio performance.
- Monitor account reporting timeliness, assimilate and restructure to complete cross-account analysis.
- Support the integration of data enrichment from external data sources onto portfolio datasets.
- Proactively manage routine internal and external reporting:
- Running and updating of BAU weekly, monthly and quarterly reports, improving existing processes
- Claims overviews, management of cat claims and large loss reserves
- Tracking details behind accounts performance and loss ratios over time
- Quarterly peer review (reconciliation of portfolio performance incorporating claims updates from brokers and liaison with reserving actuaries) and Large Loss reporting
- BDX data preparation and feeds for various Lloyd’s Realistic Disaster Scenario (RDS) returns
- Assist in managing and enhancing the team’s portfolio tools with additional datasets to deepen team’s knowledge of the performance and profitability at: class of business level, risk code level, syndicate lead market, broker, territory etc
- Monitor premiums, acquisition costs, claims ratios per facility, portfolio balance against business plan and other KPIs
- Act as a link between Portfolio Underwriting and the operations, data team, compliance, actuarial and finance teams in the rest of the Group
- Develop a good working relationship with the business managers and claims managers on all classes of business underwritten by Portfolio Underwriting
- Assist with Business Planning process as required
- Support Portfolio Underwriting team with forward planning, document production and meeting packs
- Manage and perform ad hoc projects as required, especially during the team’s busy 1st January renewal period
General
- Promote active knowledge sharing and strategic alignment with other Beazley underwriting teams. This will include but not be limited to sharing market information, marketing sources and cross selling opportunities.
- Share and gather knowledge within the Beazley Group to ensure dissemination of best practice and maximise business opportunities and profitability within the Group.
- Production of new insights, presentations and marketing literature as required.

Personal Specification:
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Minimum of intermediate Excel skills required
- Intermediate Power BI skills, DAX queries and data modelling
- Ability to create and run SQL queries
- Working knowledge of VIPR bdx system advantageous
- Ability to analyse MI and produce comprehensive MI reports
- Good understanding of BDX and ability to translate data points into UW insights
- Facilitation and strong administrative/organisational skills
- Ability to work within a close-knit team in a collaborative manner
- Familiarity with claims and syndicate reserving process
- Strong business analysis and problem-solving skills, including business process review toolset

Knowledge and Experience
- Some experience of insurance and intermediaries (London Market preferred)
- Experience in working in cross functional groups and working alongside underwriters
- Experience and confidence when liaising with peer groups and senior staff
