The Team:
The Reinsurance team at Clyde & Co is recognised as a market leader in (re)insurance coverage disputes, with particular expertise in complex, high-value reinsurance matters spanning multiple parties and jurisdictions. The team advises and represents both cedents and reinsurers, handling the full spectrum of issues that arise under facultative and treaty reinsurance contracts. With deep sector knowledge and experience across common and novel coverage issues, the team is trusted by clients to navigate sophisticated disputes, deliver strategic solutions, and protect their commercial interests in some of the most challenging and technical reinsurance cases globally.
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Associate to join our leading Reinsurance team. This is a key role for a lawyer with strong insurance coverage expertise, particularly in reinsurance, arbitration, and dispute resolution. The successful candidate will work on a broad range of complex, high value matters as well as smaller, fast-moving cases, providing coverage advisory support, drafting and reviewing wordings, and managing contentious reinsurance and insurance disputes.
You will have the opportunity to lead on projects and manage teams, as well as play a central role in client relationships, business development initiatives, and the continued growth of our practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting for insurers and reinsurers on complex coverage disputes, arbitrations, and advisory matters.
- Advising on reinsurance and insurance wordings, including drafting and interpretation.
- Managing a varied caseload of high-profile arbitration and dispute resolution matters across multiple jurisdictions.
- Leading project teams, supervising and mentoring junior lawyers, and ensuring efficient case management.
- Working directly with clients, building strong relationships and delivering pragmatic, commercial solutions.
- Supporting business development, knowledge sharing, and thought leadership initiatives within the team and firm.
Candidate Requirements
- 4+ years’ post-qualification experience, ideally gained at a leading international or specialist insurance/reinsurance practice.
- Deep experience in reinsurance disputes and arbitration.
- Proven track record in coverage advisory work and wordings.
- Strong dispute resolution skills, with familiarity across a range of arbitral forums.
- Excellent technical knowledge combined with sound commercial judgement.
- Project management skills with the ability to lead teams and drive matters forward.
- A collaborative, client-focused approach and ability to contribute to business development.
