Job Title: Controls & Governance Manager
Division: Claims
Reports To: Per Beazley’s Org Chart
Key Relationships:
Head of Claims Business Management, the Claims Business Management Team, Claims Team Leadership, and Claims Team Members. The role also interacts closely with the internal and external audit, Compliance Team, Risk Management Team, and other Beazley departments involved in upstream and downstream processes.
Job Summary:
To lead the development, implementation, and oversight of the organisation’s internal control framework and governance structures. The role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, effective risk management, and continuous improvement of business processes across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities:
Controls Framework
- Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal control framework for the Claims Team to safeguard assets, prevent errors and fraud, and ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting
- Support in the risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs)
- Identify governance risks, recommend and implement mitigating controls
- Develop and maintain control libraries and associated documentation
Governance Oversight
- Represent Claims in governance forums as deemed relevant by HoCBM
- Ensure timely tracking, escalation, and closure of actions arising from governance committees
Assurance and Monitoring
- Perform control testing and thematic reviews to assess control effectiveness and process integrity
- Partner with internal audit, external audit, and compliance monitoring teams to facilitate independent assurance activities
- Track and report on control deficiencies, remediation actions, and audit findings
Regulatory and Policy Compliance
- Interpret and embed regulatory requirements (e.g. Consumer Duty, Solvency II, PRA’s Outsourcing and third party risk management) into business-as-usual controls and governance frameworks
- Ensure Claims policies and procedures are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated
Training and Culture
- Promote a strong culture of accountability and governance through training, workshops, and engagement with senior leadership.
- Act as a point of contact for queries relating to internal controls, governance policies, and assurance practices.
Reporting and MI
- Prepare reports and dashboards for senior management and Board-level committees
- Provide insight into control environment health, governance performance, and risk trends
Personal Specification:
Education and Qualifications
- Degree in any discipline (preferred but not essential)
Knowledge & Experience
- Strong experience in governance, internal controls, audit, risk management, or compliance (typically 5+ years)
- Demonstrable knowledge of regulatory frameworks and corporate governance best practices
- Experience managing or operating within formal governance structures and assurance frameworks
- Proficiency in control assessment, process mapping, and root cause analysis
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, including proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and control tracking systems
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for conveying complex information to various stakeholders
- Ability to lead and motivate teams, delegate tasks, and provide guidance on controls, audit, risk management, or compliance matters
- Ability to analyse complex situations, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills are needed to assess risk and interpret regulations
- Ability to adapt to changing regulations and business environments
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
- Ability to negotiate with stakeholders and influence their behaviour to ensure compliance
- Ability to manage compliance / regulatory projects effectively, from planning to execution
