About the Role:
Responsible for providing technical risk engineering excellence to support London Underwriting teams. Role performs management of Key Accounts, field activities (Midlands, North of England) and support of new business opportunities across Property & Casualty product lines.
The role will require planning, organizing, analysis and evaluation of risks, regardless of complexity across a wide breath of industry sectors, both on a desk review basis and through on-site risk engineering activities. Central to the role is to maintain awareness of emerging risks to enable clients to manage their exposures through creation of risk guidance, innovative risk solutions and client engagement, to support the strategic ambitions of the business.
About the Department & Team:
Liberty Commercial Risk Engineering Department provides support to our underwriting teams, strategic brokers and insured clients through effective risk identification, mitigation and transfer. The team delivers tangible benefits in risk engineering services through our specialist industry experience, market knowledge and sector specific value proposition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supports Risk Engineering to achieve continued profitability, growth and operational efficiencies across Property business portfolio through risk engineering appraisals, surveys and in-person risk advice.
- Managing a list of Key Accounts through the provision of effective risk engineering servicing plans and client serving, annual stewardship reports, attendance at claims meetings and renewal client presentations
- Plans, organizes and performs a wide scope of desk-based risk appraisals for commercial Property to provide risk quality information to Underwriters.
- Performs on-site risk survey activities for Property business to provide Client & Underwriting guidance, improvements and validating risk assessment.
- Represents Liberty on industry relevant external technical committees and Working Groups
- Developing pre-bind new business through effective risk evaluation, creation of client proposition & risk engineering servicing plans, which are effectively communicated at client presentations
- Ensuring the development and support of all team members, through robust objective setting and continual knowledge sharing
- The risk appraisal process includes preparation of a plant/process/product description, assessment of plant/process/product design, hazards and adequacy of mitigation measures, assessment of management systems/procedures and plant protections, and loss estimate calculations.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of the assigned lines of business(s) including process technology, loss prevention, construction and other related issues that may impact the underwriting decision-making process or profitability. The job holder is expected to actively pursue professional development to develop and maintain knowledge in these areas.
- Development of internal Risk Engineering technical guides and standards as well as collaborative input for technical Underwriting guides
- Assist in the ongoing development of risk engineering proposition for UK commercial property & Real Estate policyholders. This will include developing materials for the Liberty Risk Reduce customer portal, creation of news articles and developing new format materials to benefit both Liberty clients and Underwriters
- Monitor impairments and progression of risk improvements for both LMIE lead and non-LMIE lead accounts to ensure effective servicing. This is expected to include the formal sign off for plant modifications to fire wall compartmentation, fire detection and security systems and the completion of plan reviews.
- Consultancy skills across property including a wide breadth of industry sectors to provide effective management of top tier Key Accounts
- Responsibility for the creation of innovative risk engineered solutions and pilot trialling of solutions across property accounts to create USP’s for the RE proposition
- Maintains professional credibility and consistently demonstrates technical expertise and sound judgement

Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in a technical discipline, such as Chemical, Process, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering
- The job holder will be expected to possess experience in an Insurance Risk engineering role.
- Experience in Property London Insurance Market
- Extensive knowledge of commercial engineering practices, process and industry trends.
- Major Account Management experience
- Extensive knowledge on sprinkler standards BSEN 12845 / NFPA / FM Global
- Business Continuity qualifications, CBCI are preferred
- Excellent consultancy & communication skills with particular emphasis on collaboration with 3rd party vendors for Risk Engineering services and support functions
- Strong consultancy skills across property & Real Estate lines of business and across a wide breadth of industry sectors to provide effective management of top tier Key Accounts
