The Opportunity
QBE Portfolio Solutions (QPS) is continuing to grow at an exceptional rate and we now have several newly created Underwriter and Senior Underwriter roles available to join our London‑based team in the fastest‑growing underwriting division within QBE.
Joining us now means becoming part of a market‑leading, innovative and highly visible team with global reach across broker facilities, consortia/MGA platforms and algorithmic underwriting. Our team has grown from 1 to 15 in just five years, and we are committed to building a long ‑term, high‑calibre underwriting capability.
These newly created positions offer the chance to meaningfully shape a rapidly expanding portfolio, work closely with senior leaders, and broaden your underwriting exposure in a supportive, developmental environment.
Having the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role. QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.
About QBE
At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers. And we do it all with a human touch.
We’re an international insurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries – which means we’re big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It’s an exciting time. We’re building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.
What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you’ll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.
Your new role
You will play a pivotal role in driving profitable growth and ensuring the long term performance of the QPS portfolio. You will:
- Analyse and review portfolio performance to ensure optimisation, resilience and profitable outcomes through the cycle
- Build strong relationships with brokers, MGAs, internal stakeholders and business partners, establishing yourself as a credible and trusted market voice
- Contribute to shaping evolving strategy, underwriting best practice and modernisation initiatives
- Operate in line with the annual business plan, using sound judgement to support decision making
- Adhere to all legal, regulatory, and underwriting standards
- Remain up to date with market conditions, trends, and opportunities, applying market cycle awareness to your underwriting decisions
This is not a Lloyd’s box trading or heavily travel led role - instead, you’ll be part of an office based team with meaningful exposure to senior decision makers and the chance to influence outcomes at scale.
About you
We welcome applicants from a wide range of underwriting and related backgrounds, and you don’t need to meet every requirement — we value diverse skills and will support development. Whether you come from open market underwriting, MGA/consortia/binders, reinsurance, pricing or actuarial roles, analytical positions or commercial broker/distribution backgrounds, we’d love to hear from you.
What matters most is your ability to operate with maturity, confidence and credibility in a high profile environment.
You will bring:
- Underwriting experience (open market, reinsurance or binders).
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to work with large and complex datasets
- Excellent communication skills - able to produce succinct reports and engage senior stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills and comfort working to deadlines
- A flexible mindset and the ability to adapt as our portfolio and strategy evolve
- Curiosity, commercial awareness and willingness to learn new lines and approaches
