Job overview:
The London Commercial Team, specialise in Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate programmes across Property, Casualty, Construction and Motor Fleet. Our key broking partners include Global, National and Independent specialists, most of which operate in the diverse ‘square mile’ area. We ‘re currently looking to strengthen the team and bring to market the opportunity to join us as a Lead Trading Underwriter.
In this role you’ll develop excellent broker and client relationships to deliver a strong pipeline of cases to deliver target KPI’s for the branch. You’ll play a vital role in supporting the growth of new clients and the management of existing clients in the Mid Corporate space.
Key responsibilities:
- Proactively lead the development of strong trading relationships in the London Market, serving as a subject matter expert for Mid Corporate customers with a GWP of £250k+.
- Actively develop and maintain a robust pipeline of new business opportunities, taking full ownership of generating profitable business from a designated panel.
- Manage and fully own engagement with both the broker panel and client allocation, ensuring effective communication and relationship management.
- Serve as a referral point for Mid Corporate customers to connect with key internal stakeholders across risk management and claims teams.
- Ensure that trading teams underwrite new and existing business profitably and consistently, adhering to established underwriting practices and utilising available tools.
- Coach and train Senior Underwriters to enhance their technical and trading capabilities for both new and existing business.
- Act as a referral point for Senior Underwriters, providing technical and trading input to improve decision quality within their empowerment.
- Effectively promote and implement AXA’s strategy, product range, and key differentiators to leverage commercial opportunities, while also contributing to loss ratio control through proper underwriting controls.
Work arrangements:
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least three days a week (60%) away from home which means attending our office in London, visiting clients or attending industry events. Your skills & experience:
- London Market underwriting experience, particularly with slip-based business, bespoke wordings, and international and captive insurance.
- Experience in managing large cases and portfolios specifically within the construction sector, including direct client exposure.
- High level of technical product knowledge in Property and Casualty classes, supported by strong underwriting expertise in a composite insurance environment.
- Excellent negotiation, sales, and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships at all organisational levels.
- Strong analytical skills with proven experience in account monitoring and action planning, complemented by pragmatic decision-making abilities and good numerical reasoning skills.
- Established skills in networking and relationship building, essential for fostering partnerships in the insurance market.
- Sound knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for insurance, including understanding of treating customers fairly and the overall commercial insurance market.
- ACII qualification is desirable.
As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
