Overview
- We are looking for an experienced data analyst to join our Casualty analytics team.
- The successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering sophisticated data analysis to support the placement of reinsurance programmes for our clients.
- This role requires a strong understanding of data management principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data-driven decision-making.
How you'll make an impact
- Collaborate with brokers and clients to understand data requirements and provide data-driven insights to support reinsurance placements.
- Utilise advanced data analysis techniques and visualisation tools to analyse large and complex datasets, providing insights on market trends, claims experience, loss ratios and other key performance indicators.
- Design, build and optimise Python data pipelines to ingest, cleanse, transform and standardise datasets from multiple external sources, leveraging VS Code, GitHub version control and modern development practices to deliver efficient, repeatable and auditable data processing and analysis.
- Develop and implement robust data quality checks and controls to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
- Lead the development of a central casualty exposure and claims database, including schema design.
- Design and implement analytical tools, dashboards and benchmarking datasets that compare portfolios consistently across clients, classes and time periods.
- Stay at the forefront of industry trends and emerging technologies in data analysis, visualisation, data engineering and AI.
- Identify and deliver opportunities to automate and streamline existing manual processes.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics or a similarly quantitative, technical subject.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a data analyst role, with a strong focus on technical data pipelining and analysis in the insurance industry.
- Exposure to reinsurance, in particular casualty lines, would be a distinct advantage.
- Excellent Python skills, with demonstrable, production-quality experience using pandas and related libraries for data cleansing, transformation and automation.
- Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Strong SQL, with practical experience of designing relational database schemas and building and maintaining data stores.
- A proven track record of working with large, messy, inconsistently structured datasets and making them analysis-ready.
- Experience designing and implementing automated data quality checks and controls.
- Advanced Excel and Power Query skills, with data visualisation experience in Power BI.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks and regulatory compliance, including GDPR.
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
