The Role
We are currently looking for a motivated individual keen to carve a career in the Insurance industry to join our Catastrophe Management team as a Catastrophe Risk Analyst. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate (graduate level) looking for their first, or next move within the insurance industry, working for a top 3 Lloyd's syndicate and global re(insurer)
The successful candidate will be working within the non-natural perils pillar of the Catastrophe Management team, and will responsible for analytics and reporting for the Sabotage & Terrorism (S&T) class, with the opportunity to support wider teams, as Canopius continues to expand and diversify their portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Part of a team responsible for creating and enhancing non-natural catastrophe reporting MI to help drive strategic decision making
- Providing management with the tools and insight required to better understand non-natural catastrophe aggregation risk across the Group. This includes management of the monthly/quarterly S&T roll-up for pack reports.
- Active involvement with the S&T underwriting team – attend weekly calls and manage ad hoc exposure analysis as required
- Work alongside our outsource team to help manage ad hoc S&T entry queries and pre-bind requests.
- Delivery of pre-bind metrics to Underwriting team
- Production of regulatory reporting for S&T including Lloyd’s & Realistic Disaster Scenarios (RDS). Liaise with internal stakeholders on aggregation and portfolio analysis affairs including catastrophe management, and risk committees (primarily Non-Nat Cat Risk).In collaboration with the Catastrophe Research team, contribute to research projects that further our understanding and management of non-natural risks.
- Using PowerBI to create and maintain current monthly/quarterly reporting for Underwriting and senior management where required.
- Use of RMS, and proprietary tools to help capture and monitor aggregations within the Non-Natural Catastrophe team
- Work with the Head of Catastrophe Research and Non-Natural Peril Exposure manager to drive improvements to view of risk (VoR) across classes of business, either through enhancement to existing scenarios, and/or build out of new views of risk to help manage and monitor non-modelled risk across the Group for classes responsible
- Work closely with the Senior Technical lead in Non-Natural Perils to help drive automation projects to streamline workflows and improve efficiency within the team
- Assisting in the catastrophe management activities of other lines during key renewal periods.
Skills and Experience:
- Degree in an analytical discipline preferred but not required
- Highly numerate and logical – strong mathematical/statistical knowledge is advantageous
- Prior experience in an exposure management role advantageous but not required
- Good business communication skills – ability to influence, negotiate, and listen
- Ability to manipulate large data sets with intermediate Excel skills
- Familiarity with MS SQL query language or other coding languages is desirable
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- Willingness to take responsibility and accountability
- Organised, methodical, quick thinker.
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage workload priorities effectively.
