Job Title - Claims Lead
Working in a globalized customer focused, dedicated and professional claims organization. Supports the department goals of managing, maintaining and retaining a department of the highest quality claim professionals to provide internal and external client servicing through efficient and effective claims handling and quality customer service.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for adherence to the claims processes and procedures with respect to payment, reporting, reserving and auditing necessary for assigned businesses and accounts and with specific reference and adherence to required Lloyds minimum standards in claim handling and reporting
- Assists relevant Claims Manager or Global line of business Lead in understanding industry losses, loss development and liability trends and exposures that may affect the reserving, pricing and underwriting strategy for specified lines of business and accounts and operating unit as a whole
- Responsible for the claims handling of assigned accounts within the specified underwriting units, assisting actuarial, underwriting and finance in understanding the losses and loss development. A particular focus given to specialty lines of business written locally (Marine, Aviation, Agriculture)
- Responsible for the oversight of the technical claim work of assigned claim/accounts and ensuring that all mattes are considered and ahead of referral to Global Claims Management
- Assists Management in all matters pertaining to the management and success of the Claims Department
- Assists the Claims Manager in all matters pertaining to the management and success of the Claims Department
- Assists in the preparation of the audit schedule and conduct audits as scheduled; ensuring the timely issuance of all claim audit reports
- Develops, maintains and adheres to claims practices, processes and procedures aligned to AXIS Re best practices, alongside all relevant local, regulatory bodies, or agencies.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) or Professional qualification
- Experience resulting in a broad knowledge of the insurance and reinsurance marketplace
- Understands individual claims issues as well as the account considerations
- Proficient knowledge of primary claims handling, with a focus on all assigned lines of insurance. Ability to independently evaluate primary claim damages and liability
- Understanding of insurance and reinsurance terminology, line of business specific insurance coverages, reinsurance treaty terms & conditions (including all standard contingent treaty features) and contract language; understands how the risk profile of an account changes with modifications to the reinsurance structure, terms and conditions
- Understands complex primary claims and has the ability to independently evaluate exposures for proper reserving to the reinsurance program
- Working knowledge of legal processes and laws applicable to the lines of business handled in the unit. Ability to recognize potential legal issues or conflicts differing jurisdictions. Basic knowledge of where to gain more information as needed. Understanding of basic arbitration process and structured settlements
- Ability to read and understand terms of a reinsurance contract and adjust claims in accordance therewith
- Detailed knowledge of the assigned AXIS Re account characteristics
- Maintain an awareness of emerging risks, market conditions and other movements that may materially impact a line of business or an account; broad knowledge base of specific information relating to all business underwritten in the supported business unit
- Solid foundation and understanding of all reinsurance contract terms and conditions, including business covered, exclusions, aggregate limits, occurrence limits, treaty limits, retentions, annual aggregate deductibles, clash exposures, claims made cover, etc. and the impact of the contract terms to each claim and to the account as a whole
- Ability to assess the reliability, credibility and overall completeness of the claims information provided and analyse claims (liability, damages, and reserves). Ability to integrate both the abstract and concrete elements of a claim for a proper evaluation. Acts as a strategic thinker.
