What Is the Opportunity?
We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to join our team in Redhill, Surrey.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and experience with container platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to work on challenging projects, collaborate with a diverse team of professionals, and contribute to the success of our innovative initiatives.
This role will be based in our Redhill Office (London Road, Surrey, RH1 1NA) and you must be able to commute to the office 3 days per week.
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.
Travelers Software Engineering team enables a seamless customer experience through technology solutions. As a Senior Software Engineer you will help us grow and transform our Technology landscape. You will leverage your engineering background to complete advanced tasks that span many parts of a system while providing technical leadership to the team on complex business initiatives. As a subject matter expert of multiple applications, systems and technologies you will consult with users to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications to drive the design and development process. What Will You Do?
- Lead critical software engineering projects that present a high degree of complexity and span various emerging technologies.
- Seek opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve the business and provide more efficient processes.
- Collaborate with a robust team of engineers while providing technical guidance and mentorship and fostering a team environment.
- Oversee complex analysis, advanced level design, debugging, configuration and development of functions for impactful and high-visibility tasks.
- Research and apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions for software engineering problems.
- Act as a technology advocate seeking opportunities to improve business outcomes and increase our business capabilities to benefit our customers.
- Lead the team to tackle high-visibility business initiatives while shaping the scope of the project.
- Design, implement, and manage cloud-based infrastructure solutions using AWS native services.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes.
- Monitor system performance and reliability, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to ensure optimal uptime and performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define infrastructure requirements, identify areas for improvement, and implement best practices.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in cloud computing and DevOps methodologies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Comprehensive of programming/development experience.
- Considerable experience as a DevOps Engineer.
- Strong proficiency in cloud technologies, particularly AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, IAM, SNS, SQS).
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes or Amazon EKS
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
- Knowledge of CI/CD concepts and experience with tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or AWS CodePipeline.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) is a plus.
- Bachelors degree preferred in in Technology or a similar field (or equivalent experience).
- Excellent delivery skills including the ability to determine the software design strategy and methodology to be used for efforts, use automated tests, analysis, and informed feedback loops to ensure the quality and production readiness of work before release, monitor the health of work efforts and that of adjacent systems.
- Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including the ability to influence priorities by identifying solutions that are aligned with current business objectives and closely follow and apply industry trends.
- Strong problem solving skills with the ability to utilize data and proofs of concepts to find creative solutions to difficult problems with broad implications.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop business partnerships, describe technology concepts in ways the business can understand, document initiatives in a concise and clear manner, and empathetically and attentively listen to others thoughts and ideas.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to take action even when there is no clear owner, inspire and motivate others, and effectively influence team members.
What is a Must Have?
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or its equivalent in work experience.
- Strong programming/development experience.
