We have the opportunity for a Wordings Underwriter to join our Customer Oversight department here at Tokio Marine Kiln. You will report to a Senior Wordings Underwriter and will support the team by ensuring that wordings documentation is reviewed, negotiated and agreed in a timely and professional manner in accordance with best market practice, according to TMK’s business needs. You will be accountable to the Head of Customer Oversight and the active underwriters of the TMK Lloyd’s Platform with regard to the risk, ensuring the wordings are unambiguous and preventing the payment of unnecessary claims.
The role includes responsibility for:
- Reviewing, negotiating and agreeing wording documentation. Maintaining expert knowledge of Insurance and Reinsurance contracts.
- Ensuring the wording contains no ambiguity.
- Preventing TMK from providing more cover than agreed.
- Protecting the interest of TMK Lloyd’s Platform by paying attention to detail, developing an understanding of market practice and current market issues, and being able to maintain confidentiality.
- Maintaining ownership of those wordings rejected to the brokers until finally agreed.
- Liaising with underwriters/claims adjusters on technical issues.
- Analysing TMK’s requirements for wordings across product classes, providing management reports and commentary.
- Representing TMK as required at market committees and forums.
- Liaison with internal and external stakeholders to review market changes and root causes that impact wordings.
- To support regulatory compliance to ensure fair customer outcomes and commerciality when decision making.
- Assisting with regulatory returns, thematic review and queries from other departments.
- Sharing knowledge as appropriate both within the Customer Oversight Team and more widely to ensure compliance of all regulatory and governance responsibilities are maintained.
Proven experience in financial services, preferably the insurance sector and the London Market is essential, as is knowledge of the London Market wordings especially with regard to TMK’s main business classes including reinsurance. It is also essential that you have an in-depth understanding of insurance contracts and customer wordings and communications as well as knowledge of regulators’ approach to consumer business.
