About the Role:
FRS are looking for a motivated candidate to join their team as an Analyst to support the growth of their portfolio, in particular the Short-Term Trade Solutions business. The successful candidate will focus on supporting the underwriters to develop and expand the multi-buyer trade credit and receivables finance businesses in Europe, a key strategic growth area for FRS. No specific experience in these products is required but knowledge of trade credit, receivables/payables finance and/or buyer risk underwriting would be advantageous.
The position will report to CCPRM’s Credit Risk Manager and work closely with the Head of Multi Buyer Trade Credit (MBTC) Europe.
About the Department & Team:
Financial Risk Solutions (FRS) underwrite credit and political risks through Lloyd’s of London and on Company insurance paper. These risks relate to non-payment and non-performance of private and public sector counterparties, and political perils such as expropriation or confiscation of assets by foreign governments, export embargo, forced abandonment, war etc. FRS clients are banks, corporates, trading companies, export credit agencies and multilaterals.
Within FRS, the Country, Credit & Portfolio Risk Management (CCPRM) team is responsible for managing the portfolio of country and credit risk exposures and recommending risk appetite for FRS underwriters within an effective country and credit risk management framework.
The CCPRM framework covers the governance structures, policy standards, control and analytical processes and infrastructure established to support the management of the portfolio. The assessment, approval and management of country and credit risk represent a major part of the FRS’s risk management modus operandi.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Assessment
- Perform financial and general credit analysis on existing and new buyers / obligors to assess creditworthiness and determine appropriate credit limits within FRS’s risk tolerance.
- Analyse risks inherent in commercial transactions and liaise with underwriters to understand the deal structure, including where appropriate cash flow / financial models prepared by clients.
- Quantitative and qualitative credit analysis, to provide a Liberty (internal / shadow) rating for buyers / obligors and confirm the appropriateness of those of external rating agencies.
- Keep on top of macro-economic, sovereign & industry risk trends based on external research and rating agencies’ reports.
- Liaise with external data and information providers.
Risk Management
- Assist in setting exposure limits for obligors and countries based on detailed credit and macroeconomic analysis.
- Keep aggregation system updated and assist with reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the development and enhancement of the MBTC technology platform and risk strategy.
- Perform ad-hoc research and analysis for the team and management as required.
- Help develop tools to monitor, analyse and stress test the portfolio.
Skills and Experience:
- Ability to work effectively in a team and engage with others is essential.
- Proactive approach to problem solving, analytical mind and excellent attention to detail, coupled with the ability to work reliably when under pressure.
- Familiar with international current affairs, international finance and relevant market conditions.
- Good understanding of financing structures and types of financial instruments, especially for working capital and receivables / payables.
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to work in a challenging and fast paced environment.
- Credit risk analysis experience, preferably in an insurance company’s credit and political risk insurance team; the credit / loan / syndication function of a commercial or investment bank; a Public Agency engaged in credit and/or political risk insurance; a direct lending or trade credit underwriting function; and/or a corporate or financial institutions rating agency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong Excel skills; familiarity with Tinubu and/or D&B an advantage.
- Experience in Emerging Markets an advantage.
