The Opportunity:
Our Strategy team works directly with senior leadership on the company’s most important priorities - from shaping growth plans to designing how we organise for the future. You’ll join a high-performing team that works on impactful projects and influences decisions at the top of the business. It’s a chance to learn fast, contribute from day one, and build a strong foundation for your career.
This isn’t a deeply technical insurance role. Instead, you’ll develop strategy fundamentals within a specialty insurance context and build a broad understanding of the industry across many areas. We’re looking for ambitious candidates who are exploring opportunities in graduate consulting, including those offered by major consultancies—people who enjoy structured problem solving, working with senior leaders, and making a real impact. This role offers the advantages of a smaller team: faster responsibility, direct exposure to decision-makers, and mentoring from experienced ex-consultants from top-tier firms.
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll be working closely with senior leaders and teams across Markel, getting involved in projects such as analysing new market opportunities, shaping commercial strategy, and designing how we organise for the future. Every week will bring something different, and you’ll quickly see the impact of your work.
- Supporting the development of strategic plans and recommendations for senior leadership
- Analysing data and trends to spot opportunities for growth and improvement
- Preparing clear, concise presentations and reports for senior leaders
- Collaborating with teams across the business to gather insights and solve real problems
- Building business cases and modelling scenarios to support key decisions
- Study towards a credible Chartered Institute of Insurance Advanced Diploma (ACII) via a Level 6 Senior Insurance Professional Apprenticeship
