We are seeking an experienced Business Data Analyst to maximise the value of our data by resolving underlying gaps and strengthening data integrity.
We are seeking a highly motivated Business Analyst capable of combining analytical rigour with practical problem‑solving. In this role, you will help enhance the quality, reliability, and trustworthiness of Chaucer’s data by identifying issues, designing fit‑for‑purpose solutions, and collaborating closely with business teams, data stewards, and engineering stakeholders. This role suits someone who is curious, structured, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively to diagnose root causes, analyse data behavior, and translate findings into meaningful improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Requirements Gathering
- Investigate data issues across business domains, performing root‑cause analysis.
- Analyse datasets to detect quality problems, patterns, and anomalies.
- Translate business impacts into actionable data quality requirements and remediation plans.
- Work independently or collaboratively with data engineering, SMEs, and operational teams and lead Data Quality Working Groups.
- Define and refine Data Quality rules, thresholds, and controls.
- Collaborate with data engineers and software developers to ensure solutions are aligned with business objectives and technical feasibility.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Champion the adoption of Chaucer’s data strategy across change initiatives, ensuring data considerations are embedded in decision-making.
- Build strong relationships across Chaucer’s business units to understand reporting needs and deliver fit-for-purpose data solutions.
- Present insights and recommendations in a clear, business-focused manner.
- Support change management and adoption of data quality improvements.
- Promote data quality, consistency, and governance across cloud and on-premise environments.
Data Governance & Quality
- Support the development and maintenance of data dictionaries, lineage documentation, and metadata management.
- Support Data Owners and Stewards with issue management and domain responsibilities.
- Contribute to Critical Data Element identification and management.
- Support monitoring and reporting of Data Quality metrics and issue resolution.
- Ensure compliance with governance frameworks and data classification policies.
Teamwork & Agile Collaboration
- Actively contribute to data initiatives and cross-functional projects.
- Participate in agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, and show & tell sessions.
Tools & Analytics
- Use SQL, Snowflake, spreadsheets, and Power BI to investigate issues.
- Commit to continuous learning through professional development and skills enhancement.
Skills and Competencies
- Experience as Business Analyst within Commercial and Specialty Insurance markets. Understanding of Lloyd’s market operations, London Market processes, Core Data Record specifications.
- Proven Business Analyst experience with emphasis on data quality or governance.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Understanding of data structures, lineage, and upstream/downstream impacts.
- Knowledge of Snowflake, SQL, and Power BI.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Familiarity with CDEs, stewardship, and governance frameworks.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree; industry certifications in business / data analysis or insurance domain desirable.
