Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee to join our Scottish Professional & Commercial Risk (PCR) team. The role would be a two-year placement in our Scottish PCR team, based in Glasgow, which offers broad exposure to professional indemnity and construction work.
The opportunity will see you provide support on construction-related matters (including both direct construction work and construction professional indemnity), as well as broader professional indemnity claims against a wide variety of professionals, including lawyers, accountants and surveyors.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a national collaborative team where you will be supported and mentored by experienced Partners and a team of experienced lawyers, while building strong foundations in litigation and professional risk work.

Typical responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the day-to-day running of files, including liaising with clients, insurers and other stakeholders
- Supporting on litigation and disputes work, including liaising with counsel, experts and witnesses, reviewing and organising documents, preparing chronologies and summaries, and assisting with drafting correspondence and (where relevant) court documents
- Undertaking legal and factual research and presenting findings clearly
- Supporting client reporting and matter updates
- Maintaining accurate records and working within established processes and case management systems
- Contributing to knowledge sharing across the team
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
We are looking for someone who demonstrates the proactivity and ambition to make the most of their traineeship. In addition, the following would be beneficial (if not essential):
- A genuine interest in litigation and the ability to articulate an interest in professional indemnity & construction work
- Some experience working at a law firm, either in a Paralegal or administrative capacity
- A completed Diploma in Professional Legal Practice and a 2:1 or above at degree level
- High levels of organisation with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Confident communicator skills with a client-focused mindset
- The willingness to work flexibly across multiple areas of work
- To be IT literate, with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office. Experience of a case management system is helpful
- To be team oriented, with a willingness to share knowledge and support colleagues
- To have a commercial perspective and understand client drivers
