We have a new opportunity in our Glasgow office for an Indirect Tax Manager.
This role supports the Indirect Tax team in providing indirect tax advisory and compliance services to Chubb and affiliated companies across the EMEA and wider region. The focus of the role is on the continual day to day provision of technical indirect tax guidance and advice, support of their manager as well as supporting planning and in-depth project involvement.
The role also supports with end-to-end tax compliance obligations around Value Added Tax (VAT), Insurance Premium Tax (IPT), parafiscal taxes, indirect tax accounting and associated e-filing where required is anticipated.
Occasional travel to other regions may be required
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Respond to indirect tax queries as and when they arise – both from the business and from the Finance Team.
- Assisting senior tax team members relating to the provision of adhoc planning and projects and indirect tax advice as necessary.
- Indirect tax return reviews.
- Regular and formalised liaison with business lines/ conduct and legal teams as well as external insurance bodies to ensure current knowledge is maintained and implemented.
- Help and support with the preparation of indirect tax audits.
- Assist with the management of the day-to-day VAT compliance processes to meet Chubb’s statutory compliance obligations.
- Journal preparation and accounting where required.
Qualifications
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Background working in a VAT environment with good grasp of VAT law as well as formal VAT guidance.
- Qualified with either professional tax or accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, ICAS and/ or CTA) and have experience (at least 4 years) in indirect tax (VAT and ideally IPT) (additional accounting knowledge would be advantageous).
- A keen interest in the structure and functioning of systems/automation with a view towards current & future tax requirements particularly around increased data demands.
- IPT/Insurance background would be ideal but not compulsory.
- Ability to take ownership and not need to be micro-managed.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work to demanding reporting timetables and deadlines in a pressurised environment.
- Must be VAT literate and able to apply and understand VAT legislation and guidance strategically. Preferably finance accounting literate.
- Excellent experience using Excel and open to learning new systems and their applicability.
