How does this role contribute to our collective success?
This role is pivotal in managing and steering AXIS Capital’s global Marine reinsurance portfolio. Through strategic leadership, operational management, and relationship building, the Head of Marine Reinsurance ensures portfolio alignment with AXIS Re’s risk and profitability objectives, positioning AXIS as a thought leader in the industry and strengthening our relationships with brokers and cedents.
What will you do in this role?
- Lead a global team of underwriters based in London and New York.
- Define goals and objectives for respective reinsurance teams and team members consistent with overall reinsurance and Axis Re objectives; create conditions necessary for their implementation and monitor and report on performance.
- Day to day management of Marine Re team, taking active role in people development, ensuring effective control over all activities within area of responsibility and ensuring own and team compliance with Axis Re guidelines.
- As a member of the Senior Management Team, contribute to the development and delivery of overall objectives and communicate important information on a regular basis.
- Define the Marine Re global strategy and develop an implementation plan to be reviewed on a regular basis ensuring active portfolio steering on a real time basis.
- Engage in originating business and establishing and maintaining strong relationship with brokers and cedent.
- Ensure diligent day to day monitoring of existing book of business, raising issues and concerns when they arise and provide recommendations for actions where necessary
- Ensure an active dialog between the underwriters and actuaries in the pricing and modelling of treaty programs and the provision of accurate underwriting assessments, exposures, structure descriptions, and loss information.
- Ensure that the portfolio develops according to defined risk matrix.
- Assure delivery of management information on financial performance according to the requirement of Axis Re and Group as well as on material developments in the respective reinsurance portfolio on a monthly and quarterly basis and as needed.
- Represent AXIS Re at industry conventions, be a market thought leader and participate in speaking engagements.

About You:

What you need to have:
- Extensive experience in the Marine insurance and reinsurance markets (15-20 years), including at least 5 years in reinsurance underwriting.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and manage a team, develop talent, and foster teamwork.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.Strong communication skills.
- Strong track record in underwriting and achieving results.
- International perspective and deep knowledge of global specialty markets.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and modeling.
- Established external network, with the ability to build and maintain relationships across products and regions.
