Description
The Group Financial Accountant is responsible for managing the annual Group statutory audit, preparing financial statements and cash flow forecasting.
The Group Financial Accountant role reports into the Group Financial Reporting Manager and has two direct Group Assistant Accountant reports.
Key Responsibilities
Audit and Stats:
- Preparation of consolidated year-end statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP and for foreign branches and subsidiaries in local GAAP.
- Liaising with external auditors as the key contact during annual audit with provision of information and completion of statutory accounts.
- Preparing the monthly Claims Ltd statutory accounts and sharing on a quarterly basis with the CSG & LLP CFOs.
- Organisation of, and preparation for, subsidiary board meetings.
- Preparation and maintenance of key financial documents including the Group Accounting Policies.
- Assisting in the preparation of materials for the LLP Board and Audit Committee meetings.
- Preparing analysis on the Group's financial performance compared with other Law Firms.
- Preparing the reconciliation of local subsidiary to Group statutory accounts.
Finance Business Partnering Support:
- Lead on all technical accounting matters, providing guidance and support to the Finance Business Partner and Business Services Directors.
- Provide assistance on business cases and project accounting on an ad-hoc basis.
Intercompany, VAT and Payment Practices:
- Preparing the monthly intercompany billing matrix reconciliation and posting the exchange rate journal.
- Preparing analysis for the intercompany billing settlements.
- Assisting on the preparation of the quarterly Group VAT return.
- Managing other external reporting requirements such as the submission of Payment Practices and surveys.
Team Management:
- Play a key role in the development of the team through regular coaching and 1-2-1s as well as conducting annual appraisals and related quarterly reviews.
- Identify and recognise positive performance and behaviours. Making a significant contribution to the know-how and development of others where knowledge gaps have been identified.
Other:
- Dealing with ad hoc queries from the business.
- Assisting with ad hoc tasks and projects as delegated by the Chief Financial Officer / Director Of Business Finance / Head of Group Financial Reporting and Control.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA), ideally from practice, with post qualification experience desirable.
- Experienced in preparing financial statements essential.
- Strong technical accounting skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Able to communicate confidently orally and in writing with senior stakeholders in the business.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively with a proactive mindset.
- Previous coaching/mentoring of junior staff.
- Strong skills in Excel are required.
- IT literate with working knowledge of MS Windows applications. Experience of working with 3E would be a distinct advantage.
- Must be a highly motivated self-starter, able to work well within a team environment.
