Job overview:
We’re seeking a highly experienced and strategic Medical Director to join AXA Health. As the most senior medical lead with responsibility for healthcare governance, performance, and risk, you’ll be responsible for a number of critical areas, including overseeing both the clinical and commercial performance of our healthcare providers. Your role will include provider oversight, driving performance improvements, and ensuring operational excellence for the care we fund on behalf of our members. This senior leadership position is ideal for a professional committed to delivering high-quality healthcare, leading strategic initiatives, and ensuring operational and healthcare quality assurance. This role is not a purely governance-focussed role and would suit a Medical Director who is keen to drive overarching performance improvements and build a strong grounding as a rounded, customer-focussed, and commercially astute leader. If you’re passionate about making a meaningful impact, this is a fantastic and rare opportunity.
Key responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain effective systems to monitor and manage the performance, quality, safety, and efficiency of our wide range of healthcare providers.
- Oversee the implementation of healthcare quality policies, support SME activities, and ensure provider performance is tracked, reported, and improved, setting clear clinical standards.
- Manage all risks related to external partnerships, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Provide recommendations on our clinical risk appetite and oversee medicolegal risk management for external parties.
- Keep a clinical risk register for the external environment, ensuring risks remain within tolerance or have action plans in place.
- Offer medical input to enhance provider and healthcare performance, including strategy, contracting, and frameworks.
- Regularly review key healthcare providers, identify areas for improvement, and ensure accountability.
- Lead the clinical design of sourcing and preferencing activities.
Work arrangements:
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) in the future. Away from home means attending the office, visiting clients or attending industry events. We’re also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.
Your skills & experience:
- Medical qualification with clinical experience and at least one postgraduate qualification or substantive experience in a similar role.
- Sound understanding of supporting healthcare provider management, including data and analytics.
- Experience providing medical leadership to improve provider and healthcare performance, including strategy, contracting, and frameworks.
- Demonstrable experience leading major strategic initiatives or change programs in complex environments with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical skills to support designing, delivering, and interpreting complex data sets.
- Proven track record of setting and achieving SMART goals and driving continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and inspiring change across boundaries.
As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
